SOFTWARE NEWSEidesvik <strong>Ship</strong>ping to use<strong>Ship</strong>admin fleet-widewww.shipadmin.comEidesvik <strong>Ship</strong>ping of Norway has signed adeal to roll out the Captains Secretary softwaresystem from <strong>Ship</strong>admin on all of itsvessels.Eidesvik <strong>Ship</strong>ping operates a numberof seismic, subsea operations and supplyvessels, and intends to implement the<strong>Ship</strong>admin system on all 25 of its ships.The company had already been usingCaptains Secretary on five vessels, and hasdecided to now move to the next phase ofrolling out the systems to the rest of thefleet."I welcome Eidesvik <strong>Ship</strong>ping's verymodern fleet as a user of our core solutions,"said Per Magnus Grøsvik, generalmanager of <strong>Ship</strong>admin."I am proud to see that CaptainsSecretary was chosen by another leadingplayer in the global market."25 ships will be installed with<strong>Ship</strong>admin softwareGL Noble Denton to implement Intergraphwww.intergraph.comGL Noble Denton is to replace its existingdesign software for offshore and marineassets with the Intergraph SmartMarineEnterprise system, including SmartMarine3D, which will be used to standardiseoperations.This will enable the company toimprove data consistency between theschematics and the outfitting within itsprojects.In addition to SmartMarine 3D, GLNoble Denton has purchased licences forIntergraphs’s SmartPlant P&ID (Pipingand Instrumentation Diagram), Electrical,Review and Foundation Basic Integratorproducts.“We benchmarked IntergraphSmartMarine Enterprise against severalleading, global marine engineering designsolutions, and we thought it was the mostsustainable option for us,” said TorLønnerød, GL Noble Denton’s generalmanager for Noble Denton Brevik,Norway.MLC CBT from Seagullwww.seagull.noSeagull has launched four new MaritimeLabour Convention CBT modules to coverthe areas of management, leadership,lifestyle and physical health training,adding to two existing computerbasedtraining (CBT) modules addressingthe MLC.This package of CBT modules aims toassist shipping companies in managingcompliance with the Convention, whichit is anticipated will enter into forceduring 2012.The first of the new modules, CBT 192 -MLC 2006 Onboard Responsibilities, providesdetails of the requirements that theConvention places on senior ship officerswith regard to compliance.The one-hour module provides anintroduction to the MLC, its backgroundand regulatory structure, and the role ofthe International Labor Organization(ILO), and covers areas of inspectiononboard ship, the information andonboard records required, the validity ofcertification and the consequences of noncompliance.Another new module, CBT 193 –<strong>Ship</strong>owners’ Responsibilities, details theareas of responsibility under MLC 2006that are placed on shipping companyoffice staff dealing with the employmentconditions of seafarers and onboard crewfacilities.It also covers flag state inspection andcertification issues relating to MLC 2006and the consequences of non-compliance,and takes up to one hour to complete.Two further modules, CBT 194 andCBT 195, cover physical exercise andlifestyle.CBT 194 - Lifestyle assessment andadvice is targeted at helping seafarersimprove their lifestyle and assess healthrisks while onboard, while CBT 195 -Physical exercise and lifestyle coachingoffers pragmatic lifestyle advice and aneasy-to-use physical training programme.The programme and exercises can beperformed without special equipment andwithin the limitations of life onboard ship.Each module takes up to 45 minutesto complete.These latest four modules add to thefirst two modules, CBT 197 - MLC 2006Basic Introduction (prepared for generalawareness) and CBT 191 - Introduction tothe Maritime Labour Convention MLC2006 (targeting management and operationalstaff).“We have been listening to our shippingcompany customers, who have beentelling us they want a package of MLC-orientatedtraining titles,” said RogerRingstad, Seagull managing director.“In response, we have been workingwith experts to develop training materialsthat specifically support companies in meetingthe training requirements of MLC.”<strong>Digital</strong> <strong>Ship</strong> June/July 2011 page 20
