Many thanks.Year 9 Girls Time CapsuleA Day In The Lives…The Year 9 students have just completed anindepth study on the Industrial Revolutionas part of their unit on the Making of theModern World. Each student was given arole to play within a family. Researchingspecifi c information about this time in historyenabled the family groups to create two timecapsules representing their family’s life. Onetook a snapshot of family life pre-industrialRevolution and the other during this period.Each time capsule contained a letter fromeach family member and a number ofitems of signifi cance to them. SP Ancient TimesOn Ancient Times day we had to dressup as a character from Ancient Egypt,Ancient Rome or Ancient Greece. Wepretended that we were on a chat showand Mel interviewed us and we had tohave an answer that showed Melthat weknew about our character’s life from theresearch we did through the term.BrookeAncient Times day was really fun becausewe had to have interviews on this funnytalk show called ‘Cleochatra.’ Mel ran theshow and she was Cleopatra she lookedamazing! All of our class had an interviewwith Cleopatra (Mel) and the other classeshad interviews with their class teacher andwe were all dressed up in either AncientEgypt, Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome.We had to choose to be someone from theplace we had chosen to research and hadto chose an appropriate name from thatplace. We all gathered in the amphitheatreto have a photo of us in our awesomecostumes. I was a rich Greek womannamed Cassandra. It was funny wearingour costumes for most of the day - we couldtake them off at lunch. Ancient Times dayis going to be memorable for a long time.It was great fun dressing up and doing theChristine & Sarahprojects!TyraThe Ancient Times project was one ofthe highlights of the year. Every one,if not most, were looking forward toit. We were told to write down what wewanted to be for our project. I wrotedown ‘Egyptian tomb raider’; I got therole with Brad. I was so excited.TimSenior PrimaryPage 5Thursday 19 September 2013Mount Evelyn Christian School NewsMECS NotesDrama for Everyday LifeProgram Term 4Drama for Everyday Life is a program thatuses drama games and role play to teachsocial skills and self-confi dence in a safeand creative small group environment (4 or5 students), and has been offered at MECSfor the past 10 years. Parents, teachersand students themselves anecdotallyreport a signifi cant improvement insocial skills, behaviour management andconfi dence. A research partnership withLatrobe University has recently beencompleted that confi rmed these reports.Each session consists of three maincomponents that assist students inaddressing conversation skills and nonverbalcues via role plays. Through thisprogram, students are provided with skillsto successfully manage a number ofeveryday situations, including:-• confl ict• meeting new people• friendly conversations• anxiety• losing at games• sharing and taking turns• appropriate skills for the workplace(for senior students)• identifying and expressing emotionsStudents currently enrolled and newstudents are invited to join the programin Term 4, 2013. Students who havepreviously participated benefi t from theongoing nature of the program. Generallyprograms run for 6 – 8 weeks, dependingon the school term program with campsand other activities.Term 4 ProgramPrimary Students $110 for 6 weeks.Thur 7, 14, 21, 28 Nov & Thur 5, 12 Dec.Middle School Students $75 for 4weeks. Thur 14, 28 Nov & Thur 5, 12 Dec.MECS recognises the positive impactof Drama for Everyday Life, and hassubsidised the program for a number ofyears.If you would like your child to attendin Term 4, please ask for a form fromthe Main Offi ce and return as soon aspossible.
