Academic Programme<strong>Logan</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is strong in English,Art, Social Sciences, Music,Drama, Science, Maths andLanguages, including Maori,French and Latin. There arenumerous opportunities formusical students, includingtwo choirs, several chambermusic groups, an orchestra,an award-winning jazz bandand an after-school rock musicacademy. There are activerobotics, chess and maths clubs, as well as an enthusiastic EnvironmentalGroup.Entry to New Zealand Universities<strong>Logan</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>prepares studentsfor further educationat universities andpolytechnics. The schooloffers a wide rangeof courses and has areputation for academicexcellence, with manystudents going on touniversity.Students will beoffered preparation classes for a variety of tertiary requirements, includingNational Certificate of <strong>Education</strong>al Achievement [NCEA] and IELTS , TOEFL orCambridge Mainsuite examinations as required. Students will also enter NewZealand Speech Board Examinations.ESOL ClassesStudents are offered extra English support at each year level. Subjects AvailableStudents are placed into the appropriate year level based on their age, howeversubjects can be taken at a level suitable to their academic ability and previousexperience. For example, a student studying in Year 12 may study some subjects atYear 12 and some at Year 11.In Year 11 students take six subjects with English and Mathematics compulsoryand Science highly recommended.Students in Year 12 take six subjects with English compulsory. Asample ofpossibleactivities isoutlined here.A weekend tramp in theSilverpeaksJoin the <strong>Logan</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>Tramping club for a weekend trip intothe rugged Silver Peaks Range. We willcarry all our gear and tents for a campon Saturday night.Rafting Trip on the TaieriRiverWe travel by jet boat up the nearbyTaieri River and spend a fun andpicturesque few hours rafting backdown. Training and lunch provided.Otago Peninsula Day TripA day spent exploring Otago Peninsulaand the features it has to offer. Willinclude short walks, penguin spotting,albatross, seals etc.Skiing and Snowboardingnear WanakaCardrona is one of the ski fields withineasy reach of the township of Wanaka.Excellent skiing and snowboardingfacilities exist and there will be lessonsprovided for everyone. Accommodationwill be in cabins in a holiday park wherecooking skills will be developed in theevenings, while discussing the day’shighlights and enjoying the company ofnew friends.


Train trip through theTaieri gorge 1 DayEnjoy the spectacular views (andheights) as you travel on the historicTaieri Gorge Railway to the town ofMiddlemarch and back. See someof Otago’s most rugged countrysideand get an idea of nineteenth centurygold-miners life in the Otago region.Bush and beach adventures in the Catlins 4 daysFrom our base at a lodgenear Tautuku Beachwe enjoy bush walks,games, an overnightcamp at the beach, arather ‘muddy’ time andtrips further afield tosee waterfalls and othernatural wonders.Kayaking and Cycling at Mavora Lakes4 daysThe Mavora Lakes, near Te Anau, are surrounded by spectacularmountains. We willcamp next to thenorthern lake, thenexplore both lakes indouble sea-kayaks(training is provided).Short tramps andcycling are included inthis adventure.Multi Day Trampin November 5 daysA 5 day tramp into the mountains in theheadwaters of Lake Wakatipu. A roundtrip up the Caples River, a bit of a climbover McKellor Saddle, and then backdown the Greenstone River.Note: Students will be advised of thecosts of each trip.
