Three years after purchasing a tax lien, you may apply for a deed to the property, at which time theproperty owner is notified and given the opportunity to pay off the tax lien before a deed is issued. See the <strong>Tax</strong> Lien<strong>Sale</strong> information on the Treasurer page at www.sanmiguelcounty.org for more information.• Immediately following the tax lien sale, all buyers must make payment in the Treasurer’s office. Acceptable paymentmethods include personal check, certified or cashier check, cash or money order. If payment is not made or ifpayment is not honored by your banking institution, you will not be allowed to participate in <strong>San</strong> <strong>Miguel</strong> <strong>County</strong> salesfor five years.For your information:• <strong>Tax</strong> notices are mailed to the property owner of record shown in the Assessor’s office as of June 30 th of the assessedyear. Mortgage companies typically contact the <strong>County</strong> Treasurer for the tax amount.• Pay your taxes promptly to avoid interest and other fees. Include the return portion of the tax notice or provide yourschedule number with your payment.• <strong>Tax</strong>es are based on property valuations done by the <strong>County</strong> Assessor. If you have questions regarding regardingproperty valuation please address them to the <strong>County</strong> Assessor, PO Box 506, Telluride, CO 81435 or contact theAssessor’s office (970) 728-3174.• Educate yourself about the Colorado taxing system. Inquire at the Treasurer’s Office or call for information andanswers to your questions.• You may access tax information on-line at www.sanmiguelcounty.org and select <strong>Tax</strong> Information. This webpage willallow you to view and print your tax bill and also to pay on-line with an electronic check or credit card from Januarythrough late October. Be advised that fees will be applied for on-line payments.• If paying off a tax lien, payment must be made by certified or cashier’s check, wire transfer, cash or money order.
