Premicon AG
Premicon AG, with headquarters in Munich, was founded in 1998 as a service provider for investors. In order to provide investors
with good prospects, from the beginning the company focused on the design of profit-oriented closed funds in terms of the growing
market of high-sea and river cruises.
After over ten years in business, Premicon AG is more than a service provider. It offers everything from one source and has conse-
quently expanded its services in the cruise and tourism industry. This also includes the actual running of ships as well as the plan-
ning and construction supervision to form a complete service package for the tour operators who charter ships and market trips.
Today, Premicon AG has advanced to become market leader in Germany for the design and marketing of closed investment funds
in cruise ships.
Currently with 25 river cruise ships, Premicon has the largest fleet in the cruise area of the Rhine, Main, Mosel and Danube; there
is also the ocean-going cruise ship MS/ASTOR that was completely modernised at the beginning of 2010 and has since enjoyed
great popularity. On pages 6 and 7 in the table you can see Premicon AG‘s entire fleet with all the ships and territories. Premicon
AG is also the majority shareholder in Köln Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG, the oldest German ocean carrier public limited
company with 180 years of tradition in river cruises.
With Transocean, a cruise operator has also been part of the Premicon Group since the end of 2009. Transocean has three Premicon
ships on offer on the river: TC/BELLEVUE, MS/MARIBELLE and MS/BELVEDERE. The Bremen company also markets the ASTOR.
8
Premicon‘s other 22 river ships are leased to various national and international tour operators including the German market leaders
TUI and DERTOUR. TUI designed its own product line in 2011, consisting exclusively of Premicon ships in 2012, there will be 5 ships
including three new TwinCruisers and the fl agship TC/TUI QUEEN (formerly TC/PREMICON QUEEN).
Köln Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG is the oldest publically traded company in the world and Europe‘s most experienced
inland waterway shipping company. Founded in 1826, today it is the market leader and operates 14 excursion boats on the Rhein
and the Mosel. Approximately 270 employees work on these ships as crew members and service personnel. The excursion boats
bring an annual turnover of approximately 19 million euros. In 2000 Premicon became a majority shareholder in the company.
The Köln Dü sseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG restricts their marketing exclusively to their core business of excursion boats
on the Rhein, the Main and the Mosel, yet under the name of «KD Cruise Services Limited» they provide a service package for the
operation of river cruise ships.
This service is provided by KD Cruise Services Limited, the subsidiary company of Köln Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG. The
change in location proved successful because Premicon AG was thus able to concentrate all their shipping activities in one central
location in Europe; namely Cyprus – a country rich in shipping tradition. A further reason for deciding the place of location in Cyprus
was also the crew on board the ships, so that we could offer them uniform and safeguarded social and tax conditions. With the private
health and retirement insurance plan from Allianz, our employees enjoy exceptional coverage that you won’t fi nd just anywhere.
G&P Cruise Hotel Management GmbH
Together with G&P Sea Cruise Hotel Management (Cyprus-Limassol) Ltd, the Swiss company G&P Cruise Hotel Management GmbH
is responsible for hospitality on river cruise ships. As an established company, which as «Gsell & Partner» was at that time primarily
concerned with hotel management and hotel consulting onshore, we were able to take on the catering of two river cruise ships in
2003. With that, the company G&P Cruise Hotel Management GmbH was born, as was our boundless enthusiasm for ships.
With each year we were able to grow further and today we are very proud to be in charge of catering for 24 modern river cruise
ships. Together with the company G&P Sea Gourmet and the catering of the ASTOR, in 2010 we were able to make the step onto
the high seas, much to our delight. As part of the G&P Group Lucerne, we employ around 1,100 staff on the rivers and seas, of
whom around 50 are at the headquarters in Lucerne.
From the beginning size was not the most important aspect for us but rather our focus was on quality and the customer. We consider
ourselves as service providers whose most important task is to provide an excellent service to guests onboard and to cooperate with
our partner companies as a TEAM. Our common goal is an extremely satisfied customer.
In order to achieve this goal, we require a positive and happy crew who are prepared to play their part. Fortunately, a large crew
of permanent staff has been formed who have been in action for several seasons for G&P. Those who are new to the company are
warmly invited to profit from the wealth of experience and from the G&P philosophy lived by the existing crew.
During the season on board our crew undergo training sessions in all departments with the goal of professional as well as personal
development. The G&P Campus was established over a year ago specifically for this purpose. Customized training and advanced
training courses are conceived and organized at the head office in Lucerne. Actively participate in these exciting, entertaining and
effective advanced training courses – our motto being «Don’t stop learning as you journey through life!»
Communication on board
On board the ships, the captain, the cruise director and the
hotel manager, as representatives of the partner companies,
are jointly and directly responsible for the guests‘ wellbeing.
Clear communication among the three is therefore essential.
Questions and diffi culties that occur must be solved directly
and collectively, always for the good of a regular ship operation
and for satisfi ed guests. Any personal animosities among
the management staff of the ship which would be detrimental
to the partner companies have no place and are prohibited by
the head offi ces.
Regarding issues concerned with navigation, security, the protection
of guests and staff, the captain is the fi nal authority
on board. The captain‘s decisions may also affect the travel
programme and the hotel operation, e. g. in the event of high
or low tides, extreme weather conditions, delayed departures
or arrivals, illness or death on board etc. Smooth cooperation
is vitally important in these exceptional situations in particular.
