In 19th century Austria, Beethoven wrestles with a commission he cannotcomplete. In present day, Katherine struggles to unlock the mystery behindBeethoven’s obsession with a simple waltz. As she races against time and her failinghealth, Katherine discovers the true nature of Beethoven’s work and gains insight intothe other mystery in her life: her daughter. 33 Variations illustrates how the verypassions that threaten to overwhelm us can also save us. This play contains adultlanguage and content.Directed by Guy Sanville, the cast includes David Bendena (Chelsea, MI), Daniel C. Britt(Hamilton, OH), Lauren Knox (Macomb, MI), Richard McWillams (Dayton, OH), MichelleMountain (Grass Lake, MI), Michael Brian Ogden (Berkley, MI), and Rhiannon Ragland(Flint, MI).33 Variations premiered at Washington D.C.’s Arena Stage and later opened onBroadway in March 2009. <strong>The</strong> Broadway production featured Jane Fonda in the leadingrole and received five Tony Award nominations.33 Variations will enjoy a ten-week engagement at the <strong>Purple</strong> <strong>Rose</strong> <strong>The</strong>atre <strong>Company</strong>from Thursday, March 28 – Saturday, June 1, 2013. Seven low-priced previews will beperformed Thursday, March 28 – Thursday, April 4 (no performance on March 31), with<strong>Press</strong> Opening on Friday, April 5, 2013.
