Walker, Jr.,October 12, 1930 - October 24, 2012The family <strong>of</strong> James R.Walker, Jr., with much loveand respect, announce hispeaceful passing into the SpiritWorld on October 24, 2012.Jim was last seen with a giantsmile on his face while dancinginto heaven on his newlegs. He was lovingly attendedto by Southern Care Hospiceand in the tender hands <strong>of</strong> the nurturing staff <strong>of</strong> Andahwod(“Where We Live”) on the <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>Chippewa</strong><strong>Indian</strong> Tribal Nation. Jim’s warm smile, belly-shakinglaughter, twinkly eyes and unforgettable voice will bemissed by all those who touched his life.Jim was born in Petoskey, <strong>Michigan</strong>, on October12, 1930; the son <strong>of</strong> James R. Walker, Sr. and LottieJohnson. He is predeceased by his parents, brotherAloysius, sisters Gertrude, Betty and Jeanette as hebegins his journey with his strong faith guiding him.Jim was a proud Marine and <strong>of</strong>ten spoke about hisKorean War experiences. Six weeks after returningfrom service, Jim met the love <strong>of</strong> his life, MaryAnneJ. DeLeary. The bond <strong>of</strong> their relationship reconciledlate in life revealed a bond that leaves behind a legacy<strong>of</strong> love in their six children: James R (Mary) WalkerIII, Sharon Skutt, Donna (Ron) DeLap, Janice Walker,Mary Margaret Walker and Paul J (Jami) Walker; 14Grandchildren and 20 Great-Grand -children. Jim alsoleaves behind the matriarch <strong>of</strong> the Walker Family, hissister, Theresa (Henry) Rubin and their children alongwith numerous nieces and nephews.Many characteristics <strong>of</strong> Jim stand-out but the mostoutstanding qualities include his sense <strong>of</strong> humor, generosity,his constant warmth and ability to adapt to anysituation. Jim had a remarkable sense <strong>of</strong> in-sight andfore-shadowing that <strong>of</strong>ten left family members in aweas his revelations and inventions became reality.The Walker Family received fans and paparazziat Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 WestWheeler Street, Midland; Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. withthe Ogitchidaw (Warriors’) Society and Drum grouphonoring Jim as a Korean War veteran and from 6 - 8p.m., with a Catholic vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral will be heldat St. Agnes Catholic Church, on West River Road inSanford, Monday at 2 p.m. with a “Drive by” salute pasthis home on his way to Calvary Cemetery where he willlie next to his wife, MaryAnne. The role <strong>of</strong> the TEAB is to oversee policies for the <strong>Tribe</strong>’s culture-based, student centered, educationalprograms and advise Tribal Council on all matters pertaining to the educational development <strong>of</strong>the members and programmatic opportunities.Requirements: 1.)
