About PVPPhotoselective vaporisation of the prostatehas now become an established part of thearmamentarium for the surgical treatment ofbenign prostatic hyperplasia. Since its introduction, there have been significant advancements in thesurgical technique as well as the technology itself. The treatment has significant advantages in that all men whowould be candidates for conventional transurethral resectionof the prostate would also be candidates for PVP (although theconverse does not necessarily hold true). The development of high power greenlight photoselectivevaporisation of the prostate (PVP) using the Lithium Triborate(LBO) crystal instead of the potassium-titanyl-phosphate(KTP) crystal has had significant implications for urologists andtheir patients. Firstly, the technique of performing surgery hasevolved and represents a notable departure from the techniqueoriginally taught for PVP performed using the 80W KTP laser.Secondly, patient selection was infrequently limited purely onthe basis of prostate size. This workshop would suitnot only those interestedin commencing greenlightPVP procedures for thefirst time but also thosewho are making thetransition from 80W KTPor 120W LBO to 180WLBO greenlight PVP.Course objectivesTo appreciate the physics ofthe laser tissue interaction andhow this impacts on surgicaltechniqueTo acquire the principles ofsurgical technique using highpowered lithium triboratelasersTo be updated on the verylatest data on the clinicaloutcomes of photoselectivevaporisation of the prostate ina range of clinical applicationsThe latest development has been that of the high powered180W LBO XPS laser with its water cooled MoXy fibre. Thishas enabled significantly improved efficiency in treatment andtreatment times reduced by a third as well as significantlyimproved fibre durability. At this workshop, succinct presentations with an emphasis ondiscussion and audience interaction will be interspersed aroundlive case demonstrations using the LBO 180W XPS laser. Onthe first day of the workshop, two straightforward cases will betransmitted by video link to the conference room and there willbe an emphasis on audience interaction. On the second day ofthe workshop more challenging cases will be observed.Following the completion of cases on the second day, a hands-onwet lab session will provide attendees with the opportunity toappreciate the differences between the use of 120W standardfibre and the irrigated 180W Moxy fibre and understand theeffect of fibre manipulation on vaporisation efficiency.Register onlineRegister online at www.usanz.org.auFor further information please contact:Wendy FrazerUrological Society of Australia and New Zealandt: 02 9362 8644e: cpd@usanz.org.au
