Beloved Member FraternityWarm greetings once again!‘Warm’ is probably the wrongword usage, especially sinceDubai is experiencing one ofits most intense summers thisyear!!!As the mercury levels havebeen consistently rising in thepast two months, the activityat our India Club has alsobeen heating up. We recentlyconcluded the UAE OpenBadminton tournament, and tosay that it was a grand successwould be an understatement.I would like to commend theorganizing committee and staffwho managed to pull off such afantastic tournament. The factthat there were a whopping501 entries, underlines theimportance of the UAE open, amongst the sports eventsconducted in the UAE. Thistournament seems to be gettingbigger and better as the yearspass and that in itself is a hugeachievement for the Club. The Club has also addedthree new institutions in thecities of Mumbai, Jaisalmer andKolkata to its ever growing listof affiliations. I am sure that allmembers will find value in thehospitality services provided bythese prestigious institutions.I would like to thank all ofyou for an incredibly positiveresponse with respect tothe open areas of the clubbecoming no-smoking zones. This is definitely a step in theright direction, and will helpin our endeavor to make theclub a healthy and safe place tosocialize and interact. We will be having a smallbreak, as far as events areconcerned, due to the holymonth of Ramadan. Both of us (I and myhusband) had specially taken time off fromour work to attend this talk. It definitely wasa nice seminar by him. It was an incredibleexperience to listen to Mr. Minood’s talk.Even though we started with a small hitch,it was worth the wait. Mrs. Pansy was verykind enough to take care of all the memberswho attended the talk. Thanks to India Clubwe could personally meet and listen to Mr.Minood.Mrs. Rajashree P. RamchandaniMembership No.4197Best impressionWe would like to first of all congratulateyou and your team for the launch ofthe new and impressive coffee table bookon India Club and thank you for sending uscopies of the same.We were extremely pleased to note thecontents, especially the coverage given tothe Award section and in particular theDSES and the DQA. We are positive theClub will touch new heights under your ableleadership and encouraging initiatives.Mohammed Bushanain al AmriExecutive DirectorBusiness Excellence Center&Best letterOur beloved institutionMy wife and I enjoy reading the bimonthlynewsletter, the nice, glossyand highly informative magazine of IndiaClub which updates all members on theprograms and activities that club undertookin past two months in every issue. It is anexcellent presentation indeed and as weeither “re-live” these programs since weattended them OR we relish them throughdetailed articles and photographs thatdepict the programs so very truly. We read your May- June 2010 issue withfervor. Noted the change in leadership, read a well written “last message” by outgoingChairman, Mr. Sunil Singh and thefirst message from incoming Chairman Mr.Siddharth Balachandran who has promised“continuous improvement” and “sustainedExcellence” by his new team. We wish hima warm welcome and best wishes to achievethe dual objective he referred to. His zestand passion will also be observed and appreciatedwell by all members, we are sure. You mention on the Mail Bag page thatyou would like to hear from us, the members( just about anything--a suggestion, acomplaint, gossip or simply pure praise)I would like to praise and suggest in this04 IndiaClubmaiden letter to you.Praise part alreadydone in first paragraph;you deserve it allthrough.“Our beloved institution”as the new Chairmanput it in his firstmessage, is indeed belovedfrom (almost) allangles. Soft and friendlydemeanor of staff acrossthe club hierarchy, arrangingon continuousbasis programs for differentage group, tastes, culturesand regional interest, sports, health, leisure and lectures youname it, it is all very much there!!It was nice of Club to arrange a tour toJordan which was a great success, ourfriends told us. Had to be. We had been toJordan but wanted to visit again but the vagariesof working life did not permit us tovisit second time. Our loss indeed.Must confess that we were disappointedto see an “inadequate” coverage of the tourin our Magazine. A travelogue of Jordanand no photo of PETRA--the most dramaticSIQ leading to world famous and ancient“The treasury” monument. Petra is one ofthe modern wonders of the world and infact, in our opinion, deserves to be on themagazine cover and you too will agree. Inher winning letter, Mrs. MariaGupta aptly, albeit briefly, described Petra. but thenthe accompanying photo isnot of famous SIQ or Petramain building where IndianaJones third movie LASTCRUSADE was shot andmade it world famous. We had taken quitea few photos of PETRAand also other places includingDEAD SEA andWADI RUM, the LAW-RENCE OF ARABIA fame. And also of the mostfamous MOSAICS of Jordan.I believe my photos are good andworth sharing with others. Passionately, Ikeep showing and sharing with all thosewho talk about Jordan--:)Hence, kindly permit me to share somephotos with you, the Editorial Team.Whether you would like to share with allmembers or not, is your decision Sir butmy wife and I will be happy if you do bypublishing some of these in your next issue. If you cannot due to some reason, we willunderstand.Thanking you in anticipation,Yours truly,Mukessh BhattMembership No. 3674

GM’s deskWe are proud to be associated with theEmirates Environmental Group for the last3 years. We have constantly tried to ensurethat the Club does its bit in promotingrecycling and reducing wastage. You maybe well aware about global warming, thecarbon footprint et al since these topicsare hard to ignore, with entire nationscontributing towards their awareness andalso taking remedial measures to counterthe negative impacts that these leave onour planet. To this effect, we have in placevarious bins for collecting newspapers, cans and bottles. The used oil from themain Kitchen is also not thrown away butsent away for recycling. Our carry bagsfor parcel orders are also made of paperand the ones in the fast food are madeusing oxy-biodegradable additives. As aresponsible institution, not only do weneed to dynamically pursue certain goalsbut, also imbibe in the younger generationa sense of moral and social correctness. In that respect, we are actually beingselfish in teaching our kids to better theirenvironment. These efforts would hopefully compoundinto something more substantial and offerour future generations a more healthyand clean lifestyle whilst preventing theGM receiving certificate of appreciation from EEGdepletion of our dear planet. Our effortswith these initiatives were again recognizedrecently by the EEG in a ceremony held atthe Dubai Knowledge Village, where IndiaClub was presented with certificates toencourage us to go even more further withthese programs. The popularity of our monthly LadiesCoffee Evenings continues to create waves,as does the KidsKlub activities. Both theseinitiatives bythe club haveensured thatentire familiesare singularlyor collectively, continuouslyinvolved instimulatingsocial or sportingactivities.Tofurther developthese andpresent themwith individualidentities, logosfor both theseactivities havebeen put in place and you will be seeingthem regularly with all the correspondencesent to you.Members are reminded to keep ouradministration updated in case there is achange in your correspondence address,e-mails, faxes or telephone numbers. Youcan inform us of these changes to: admin@indiaclubdubai.comThis continuous process of updating ourdatabase ensures that all of you are kept inthe loop all the time regarding the clubs’activities. Regular two-way communicationis necessary for maintaining a smooth flowof events. On an average, one notification is sentper week to the members on their listedfax numbers or email addresses to informthem of the latest happenings at the Club.In case of non receipt of these, please do letus know.Bharat Chachara18 IndiaClub
