Project ExcelProject Excel invites able and ambitious high school juniors and seniors with a B average orhigher to earn advanced placement and/or credits towards a college degree, preview collegelife, and extend their intellectual and cultural horizons. While attending high school, a studentmay also attend college classes during the regular academic year and/or during the summersession. In many cases, high school students who have combined Project Excel with advancedplacement tests have actually been able to start college as a second semester freshman. Notonly will the student have the opportunity to experience college life and college professors,they also save a considerable amount of money.After successfully completing a Project Excel course, credits are held in escrow until the studentrequests a transcript to be sent to the college of their choice.ROTCThrough a cross-registration program, full-time undergraduate and graduate students at<strong>Caldwell</strong> <strong>College</strong> may register for Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), in associationwith nearby Seton Hall University and commute to the South Orange campus for therequired military science classes. All other coursework, including the student’s academicmajor, is taken at <strong>Caldwell</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The Department of Military Science at Seton Hall administersthe military science courses.SPECIAL PROGRAMSThe ROTC program, through a focus of academics, physical fitness, and leadership, prepareshighly talented students for commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army of the United States.Established as a college elective program and one of the best leadership courses in thecountry, it develops leadership skills such as discipline, confidence, and integrity that focuson teamwork to accomplish any given task.Seton Hall University is the host school for students wishing to participate in an Army ROTCprogram when attending colleges in Northern New Jersey. While all instruction takes place onthe South Orange campus and surrounding area of operation, 23 other affiliated colleges,including <strong>Caldwell</strong> <strong>College</strong>, have a cross-enrollment agreement with Seton Hall University thatenables students to earn a commission in the Army of the United States.<strong>Undergraduate</strong> students may enter the program as a freshman, sophomore, or in somecircumstances at the start of their junior year. All non-scholarship students are given theopportunity to participate initially without entering any future commitment to the Army;however, a commitment must be determined prior to the start of your junior year. Students are accompanied by faculty members who both design andpresent courses in a variety of academic disciplines. <strong>Undergraduate</strong> students have the opportunityto gain a practical understanding of the culture and customs of the country while immersingthemselves in the course material. Short-term Study Abroad programs are normally takenduring the winter, summer or spring sessions and are usually one to two weeks in duration.Students must have been enrolled in one semester prior to applying; have a minimum 2.5 GPAbe in good academic and social/judicial standing; and are limited to six credits or twoShort-term Study Abroad programs. These courses may not be taken as an audit.47
