Best selling novelist Debbie
NEW
Macomber, a lifelong knitter, says
“Peggy Gaffney has introduced a new
idea into the knitting realm …you’re in for
a real treat.”
Debbie Macomber, who often includes Goldens in
her novels, says the new idea is the concept of creating
a whole book that deals with designing portraits
in knitting of a single breed of dog. As she
explains in her Forward to The Crafty Golden
Retriever – Knits, “Really, what could be better?
Yarn, a pair of knitting needles, a good pattern,
and a faithful companion by your side.”
Plus more than 75 Portraits of Dogs in Knitting
Kanine Knits Patterns are primarily about showing off the dog at its best. Most of the
charts are of dogs posing as though they were about to be judged in the show ring. As a
knitting designer who has shown her champion Samoyed show dogs for almost 40
years, Peggy Gaffney, has a keen eye for how the best of a breed should look.
Each pattern consists of a photo of the completed dog portrait knit, the chart of the
dog, instructions for a classic sweater upon which to work the chart, the breed name
charted out, yarn size and yardage for all adult sizes for men or women. All patterns
and charts are copyrighted by Kanine Knits.
Knitters whose dog’s marking do not mach the one in the Kanine Knits chart, should
feel free to use the shape that the designer has created but alter the markings to match
their own dogs. In this way, they create a “one of a kind” garment that will hold a
memory for years.

What’s Coming Up?
Kanine Knits is constantly creating new design portraits. In the coming months
and years, more and more will be made available. There are many that have been
designed and are only waiting for the sample to be knit before they will be offered
to you.
We have also been asked to develop a line of patterns for crochet. We are working
on this and will be making them available early next year.
Cats are also being worked as designs that will be available during 2008. Several
designs are being developed beginning with the most recognizable breeds.
Feedback
You are the best judge of designs needed. All of the patterns you see here have
been created over the past 10 years as part of custom knit sweaters that I knit for
owners of some of the top show dogs in the country. The look, coloring, and markings
all belonged to specific show dogs. You will also notice that there are some
rare breeds included. I often get requests from owners whose dogs are not recognized
by the American Kennel Club because of their rarity. So, let me know if
there is a breed you don’t see. It is probably in the works, but will get done faster
if we know there is a specific need.
Meet the Designer Peggy Gaffney
In the world of show dogs, she’s known at the “sweater lady”. For over ten years. Peggy
has designed custom sweaters for the owners of some of the top show dogs in the country. Her
own experience in showing her Samoyeds since 1968 has given her a rich knowledge of this
world and a keen eye for how a good dog of each breed should look. As a lifetime knitter, she
decided to use that insight to develop a line of beautiful custom knit sweaters. Her work has been
exhibited at many shows including the prestigious AKC Tournament of Champions and was
even featured in a “New York Minute” on Fox television during Westminster Kennel Club. Her sweaters have
also been featured in magazines and have been the subject of television interviews.
Now all knitters can work with these beautiful designs.
