Medleyvideo, 7:02 min in a loop (2008)In this video 143 short fragments of music from various genres arearranged into a new composition. The material is chosen regarding itstextual content which varies from blatantly homophobic swearing toappeals for hatecrimes against gay men.https://vimeo.com/89061765

GOOD/EVIL2 channel video-installation (2009)The work was realized in the exhibition rooms of the KIT in Düsseldorf. Theborrowed light of the underground room was covered and used as a screen,a sculptural pedestal on the floor and the overhead screen were used asspaces for two projections of constant running text. The shown fragments of text are subtitles taken from different Hollywoodmovies. While the text shown on the ceiling is taken from heroic speechesof classical good characters the projection on the floor is showing diabolicmonologues of impersonators of the evil itself. The both simultaneously shown speeches are performed by the sameactors but in different movies. For example Robert de Niro‘s performanceas messianic Leonard Lowe in Awakenings from 1990 gets displayed at thesame time as his diabolic speech as Louis Cypher in Angel Heart which wasreleased in 1987.https://vimeo.com/89061766

Dialogical Form (Socrates/Glaucon)text, DIN A 2, overprinted and framed (2009)This textbased piece deals with Plato‘s Cave Allegory in a way that staysvery close to the original text. The characteristic dialogic form of Plato‘swritings is taken as a starting point. The Cave Allegory gets developedduring a conversation between Socrates and the pupil Glaucon. ButGlaucon‘s mainpart hereby is to agree to what Socrates is explaining. Hefunctions as an alleged neutral character whose articulated agreementconfirms Socrates‘ teaching. For the piece the whole conversation between the two of them is printedon two separate sheets of paper. Both dialogue partners are given thesame amount of space, a DIN A3 format. While this is fairly enough forthe affirmative answers of Glaucon, the part of Socrates gets overprintedseveral times, therefore becomes unreadable and gets a more pictorialcharacter. This puts the focus on what Glaucon as a potential citizen ofPlato‘s state has to say. But his role is just to agree, a circumstance thatmight make it advisable to reread what Plato writes about education.

The EndSound-installation (2012)turn tables, dub plates, speakersThe song „The End“ originally recorded by The Doors and later covered byNico is dealing with the termination of a relationship. When Nico who oncewas engaged with Jim Morrison sings the song he is already dead. In thiscase the end really is an end.In this sound-installation two turntables continuously play both versionsof the song which establishes a duet between the two singers. For therecordings are cut onto dub-plates these will steadily corrode during thetime of the exhibition. The result will be a diffuse noise and the conceptualfulfillment of what already has been announced in the songs in severalways and with different connotations.https://vimeo.com/101604070

A Rock Hudson Dialoguevideo, 6:18 min (2010)Raw material for this Found Footage Film is the movie Pillow Talk released in 1959.The back then as a womanizer idolized Hollywoodactor Rock Hudson plays a doublerole in this movie. To get the attention of his filmpartner Doris Day he even provokesher to doubt his heterosexuality by using clichés of supposed gay behaviour.Because of such roles the in real life gay actor Hudson became a figurehead forqueer subtexts in Hollywood movies. By cutting Doris Day out of the used scenes andrearranging the spoken words into a fictional dialogue between Hudson‘s primary roleBrad Allen and his apparently gay alter ego Rex Stetson the subtext here becomesthe main plot.https://vimeo.com/89061769

Triptychoninkjetprints, DIN A2, framed (2010)The three framed texts show the historical development of three clauses inthe German Criminal law. Starting with the first appearance in the legislationof the German Reich in 1872 and undergoing several changes during thetimes of the Weimarer Republic and the Nazi regime right up to its currentwording in the criminal code of the Federal Republic of Germany. The clauses 166, 175 and 180 are not hung in their numerical order butaccording to their content. So clause 166 - which in its original version dealswith the punishment for blasphemy - is guided on both sides by two clausesthat regulate human sexual behaviour. Namely the so called sodomy orhomosexuality clause and the clause concerning procuration.By reading the texts, it becomes clear that the culpability of blasphemy, sodomy and procuration is declared only by means of moral. Both, thesecularisation and democratic processes led to strong modifications of thelinguistic usage and after all of the legal situation.Analogue to the illustrations of the history of Christ in traditional altarpiecesthe law texts document the loss of authority by the institution church.

Dead and Dead endsound- / light-installation (2013)drywall-installation, soundsystem, 9 light tubes, dimmer controle, dimensions variabel, 46 min in a loopA 4 m x 5 m sized drywall installation room is build inside the exhibitionspace. Center of the work is a soundtrack of a continuously spoken minimaltext. The speaker repetitively says„... dead ... and ... dead ... and ... dead ... and ...“.At this time the room still lies in complete darkness. Over the durationof twenty minutes it will be lit using a dimmer control. This happens withnearly unrecognizable slowness until the room is brightly lighted. Paralleland aligned to the changing lighting conditions the pronunciation of thesecond word becomes gradually shifted, and the gap between the wordsgets closed, so that the speaker finally says„... dead end ... dead end ... dead end ...“.After the room is lighted up and the phonetic change from [æ] to [ɛ] iscompleted, the whole procedure starts again but this time in reverse. As aresult, the room is permanently alternating between a place of metaphoricalspeech (death) and of description based on simple facts (an impasse). The unability to change the pronounciation between words as smoothly asone can percept gradual changes in our enviroment forces the speaker tobridge the vowels with an actual not excisting third vowel which he inventsfor this performance. His attempt causes him a lot of trouble although he isa well trained professional. The gap between perception and the possibilityof propper articulation by the usage of terms is a very important facet ofthis work.https://vimeo.com/101599355

InstallationWindowWindowsightspecific installation (2013)wood, archive photography, ligtht bulbThe Chistus-Church in Cologne, which was severely damaged during WorldWar II, regularly serves as an art space nowadays. During the first inspectionof the space I recognized that the rather prominent round window of thetower (which remained unharmed throughout the years) is not to be seenfrom inside of the church. After some further research I found out that thisis the case due to the fact that during the sixties an inserted ceiling wasinstalled which hides the window from sight.By removing a wooden plate which covered the bell-chute in the upper partof the tower it was possible to establish a view on the window from above. The installation also shows an archive photography dated from 1957 whichshows the same window seen from the central aisle of the church beforeit was obstructed.
