TO THE JESSUP
COMPETITION
Introduction from the authors: This list is supposed to give a wide overview of the
sources available for the basic theoretical preparation for the Jessup Competition.
Tip: please use the sources given below to answer the Questions for Preparation to the
Jessup Competition (also prepared by the Russian National Administration). For example,
it would be sufficient that you use one book on public international law (may be even not
all of it) to answer the Questions, but you may also find it useful to have recourse to other
writings for different opinions or broader coverage of the subject. The tip is that generally
the bigger the book is the better and broader coverage it gives with respect to all the
subjects.
NB: The scope of your research shall by no means be limited by the list given below.
Reading the sources from this list will not be sufficient to win the Jessup Competition. For
example, the list of the ICJ cases suggested for reading is intentionally not complete and
only includes the cornerstone judgments of the Court that every Jessup participant should
be familiar with, regardless of his or her Competition year.
Each Jessup team is thus expected to conduct very deep further research of this year's case
(which will be released in September 2011).
Please do not hesitate to use any sources available on the Internet to find answers to the
questions listed in our Questions for Preparation to the Jessup Competition in, by way of
example, specific journal articles on the subject.
