Instructional Improvement (Cont).A New Day...A New Way in Waukegan Schools..Students First: Defining “A New Day...A New Way”Since school year 2006 – 2007, WPS60 has devoted a considerable amount of time on defining “A New Day…ANew Way” and developing our capacity to institutionalize this philosophy in everything we do.Three strategies have evolved: continue to increase performance standards, assess student performance and ratethe district and schools on their effectiveness at achieving these standards. Students, teachers, and Administratorshave worked hard to improve student performance and great strides have been made to improve the district’sacademic climate. However, we know that the changing needs of our technology savvy students and the demandfor a graduate that is considered “ready” for post-secondary opportunities are compelling reasons to continue reevaluatingand adjusting our focus on the work so that it aligns with student needs.“A New Day…A New Way” began and continues with a core belief that each student’s educational need is firstand foremost. Not only is this a belief but is mandated responsibility of every member of our organization.BELIEF STATEMENTS* High educational standards are critical to studentachievement, and students of all backgrounds and ability levelsshould be challenged to their full potential throughdifferentiated learning techniques, consistently and equitablyacross the entire district.* Students learn through innovative, engaged teachingmethodologies taught by highly qualified, dedicated andinspiring professionals.* Student and school needs should be equitably met whilemaintaining district fiscal restraints in the spirit of fiduciaryresponsibility.* Transparent and timely communication among all stakeholdergroups will engage community support, promote anunderstanding of a District 60 education and demonstrate thebenefits of District 60 schools.303279
