Dahab itself is a unique tourist destination. Originally Dahab was an untouched palm fringed bay visited by Bedouins
during the summer months for the fresh breeze and ample supply of fish. Gradually travellers and backpackers
discovered the place and a few camps and beach side restaurants grew up. Over the past years Dahab has benefited
from an expansion of the tourist infrastructure and is now one of the most popular destinations in the region. Dahab
retains the laid back atmosphere of its indigenous Bedouin population while offering the comfort and facilities modern
tourists expect.
The Hotel you will be staying in is Blue Beach Hotel where the yoga also takes place. It is
on the beach front in a quiet part of Dahab.
All of the bedrooms are either sea facing or mountain facing and have their own balconies or
terrace, plus en-suite shower and toilet. The hotel itself is part Swiss owned and pristine.
Yoga take place twice a day at 8 am and 5 pm.
Food: your holiday includes breakfast after the morning yoga session. The food is vegetarian. Dinner can be taken
either in the hotel, or at one of the charming restaurants on the seafront in the main village and will cost £3 - £5 per
meal.
Desert Safari: A unique experience for the adventurous. Clients will be taken by
Microbus to a small Bedouin village in the Sinai where they will experience the
Bedouin way of life and culinery delights. Explore an amazing canyon, sleep under
the stars in a traditional Bedouin tent, and the next day have fun on the sand dunes,
visit the Nowamis tombs and visit an oasis (by camel optional)." When possible
yoga will be included on this trip.
Bedouin dinner in mountains: In the early evening clients are transported to a beautiful wadi, or oasis, in the
mountains where they enjoy an excellent traditional Bedouin dinner and a million and one stars. It is a wonderful
evening, not to be missed.
horses. Instruction also available.
the highest mountain in Egypt. If you wish you can climb Mount Sinai by night and watch the morning sunrise.
Swimming, Snorkelling and Diving Activities: The Red Sea is
outstanding for its wild life and well worth discovering. Dahab is
surrounded by one of the most stunning coral reefs in the world. and
for non-divers who would like to see more there are snorkelling
lessons, introductory scuba dives, and skin diving lessons. Even if
you don't know how to snorkel, or dive, instructors will take you on
an introductory private dive where they will do everything for you,
allowing you to totally enjoy the experience of scuba diving.

Dahab, Sinai
The peaceful Bedouin town of Dahab is growing into a retreat on the East Coast of the
Sinai. During the occupation of Dahab by the Israelis, it opened up for tourists. The
inhabitants of Dahab, which means gold, chose the name for it golden, powdery coast.
Dahab stretches out over a broad boulder and sand plain at the end of the Wadi Nasab.
It derived from a small oasis where Bedouins once settled. The outskirts of the modest
small town flourished with diving camps and over the past few years have become a
divers and vacationers paradise. The shore of the tourist settlement came alive with
beach life. You can try wind-surfing, rent row boats or take land and water trips.
Natives allow you to use their horses and camels for walks in the area.
In Dahab there are many good diving and snorkelling areas. The 80 meter deep Blue
Hole, which is to the north of Dahab, is the most famous and spectacular sight in the
region. Some of the cosy restaurants and coffee bars have maintained their original
exteriors and serve both regional and international food.
Blue Beach Hotel,
This two star, simple friendly hotel with its original architecture was finished in
November 1997 and has over 18 large, bright rooms. All of them consist of a shower,
bathroom and a balcony, or terrace, and have air conditioning. The grounds are right
next to the beach and only two walking minutes away from the centre by foot. A sunny
terrace and a private sand beach are available for hotel guests.
Although this hotel only has two stars we consider it to be well above average in its
amenities for its rating. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. By car, the hotel is
only one hour away from the Sharm El Sheik airport.
Restaurant and beach bar
Swimming pool by the edge of the beach
Diving centre within the hotel
Riding stable with well kept Arab horses
Yoga Room on the roof of the hotel
The Sea
The sea is directly in front of the Blue Beach Hotel and there are sun-beds for your use
on the beach.
The coral reef begins close to the waters edge and for ecological reasons we are asked
not to walk on it. For swimming, snorkelling and diving there are designated places to
enter the sea either by the lighthouse or, on calm days, down Eel Gardens cafe; both
only 2 - 3 minutes walk along the seafront.
It is preferable to ask the Blue Beach Dive Centre for advice each day on the best place
to go snorkelling.
The Blue Beach pool is right by the beach for a quick dip and there are sun loungers by
the pool as well as on the beach in front of the hotel.

The
Yoga Room
This beautiful purpose built yoga room is situated on the top of the main hotel building.
It has been especially constructed so as to remain cool, even at the height of the summer.
There are sea views from the windows and also from the balcony outside the door.
The yoga room is large, with a capacity for up to 25 yoga mats.
Students will be expected to bring their own mats with them from the UK.
The Blue Beach Yoga Teachers for 2006/7 Season
(please telephone us for details of any teachers not yet listed)
Susannah Hoffman, a fully qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher, studied yoga as a
child and grew up within the yogic philosophy - thanks to her parents who were early
followers of the spiritual and alternative lifestyle choices that are now so widely popular.
From her early teens she focused on becoming a dancer, and achieving her aim, worked
professionally for many years in this field. She soon realised that something was missing
and returned to yoga - the gap was filled. Her years of dancing, and its inevitable injuries,
have given her an invaluable knowledge of the body, which enhances her ability to teach
yoga. In addition she has studied both holistic massage and herbalism - so her view of the
body is broad and balanced.
Susannah primarily teaches Hatha Yoga, with an emphasis on connecting the breath and movement, enabling her
students to work with their bodies, get to know them and to take responsibility for their personal well-being.
Her teaching method is inspired by the Viniyoga System with its one-to-one approach. She applies this approach to
all her classes where she ensures that adjustments and modifications are made for individual students - after all every
body is unique.
Lucy Lowes teaches dynamic yoga classes with an emphasis on the flow of
breath and movement.
She is a qualified cranio sacral therapist and in her final year of studying
osteopathy.
Her teaching is rooted in body works with a precise knowledge and awareness of
physical alignment. Lucy helps her students find a sense of flow through series of
postures that takes them deeper into the energetics of body and mind.
Her particular emphasis as a teacher is on the therapeutic effects of the practice, helping students to become aware of
how the postures realign the body on both a physical and mental level and enabling them to make the most of this.
She says: ‘ The point is not to push beyond. It is easy to push our will our ego because we want to do what the
Diving and Snorkelling in the Red Sea
This area is excellent for both learning to dive, for 'try dives'
and for snorkelling.
The Blue Beach Hotel has its own, well equipped diving school and offers diving facilities and
equipment for those already qualified with a PADI certificate or similar diving qualification.
For those wishing to learn to dive they also offer a PADI diving course; or
we suggest (to save you time) you take this course in your local swimming
pool and complete it with the ocean dive on arrival in Dahab. The Blue
Beach Dive Club will then issue you with your PADI certificate.
Just outside of the hotel, a two minute walk along the beach, you can paddle out along the rocks in ankle
deep water for about 20 yards and then the sea drops away to a beautiful coral reef where you can pass
the time snorkelling. There is also a very good, atmospheric cafe here complete with hammock, for those
apres dive drinks and snacks.
If you have never dived before there are highly qualified English speaking PADI instructors available
close by, who will take you on an introductory dive (all equipment provided). This takes one hour with
full instruction and costs approx. £27.
Once you are a proficient diver, or if you would like a change of scene for your snorkelling, then you can
join trips to even more beautiful dive sites such as the 'Blue Hole', these can even be combined with
camel safaris should the mood take you!
Diving Insurance
The staff at the dive centre
Free Spirit Travel has negotiated a special insurance which covers all diving for certified divers and also
diving when accompanied by a diving instructor for those who have not yet obtained their certificate.
The cost of this is £18 for one week and £25 for two weeks and also covers all the other aspects normal
in a travel insurance.

Mount Sinai and St Catherine’s Monastery
The walk up the 2288 meter mountain is like a pilgrimage with many people from different nationalities and religions
wanting to see where Moses received the 10 commandments. There are two paths one is an easier walk but not as scenic
the other has 3,750 steps which were hewn out of stone by monks from St Catherine’s monastery. You will leave Blue
Beach Club at around midnight and drive to the base of Mt Sinai, here you will follow your guide up the mountain,
walking for around 3 hours. At the top there is the chapel which is dedicated to the Holy Trinity – it is said to be made
of the same rock from which God made the Tablets of the Law. After watching a spectacular sunrise you will begin
your descent of the mountain, arriving at the bottom in time for St Catherine’?s Monastery to open. Once you have
looked around the Monastery (see the information below) you will travel back to Blue Beach Club arriving at about
2pm.
St Catherine’s Monastery (pictures below)
The Monastery is amazing. It was finished in 565 AD. The walls are 40 feet high and 18 feet thick, the only entrance
used to be 30 foot high and there was a pulley system to lift people and provisions. It was originally built around the
‘Burning Bush’ – a descendant of which is still in the grounds now. Greek Orthodox monks now run the monastery and
so you are only allowed to visit a small part but this does include the chapel – this is adorned with gold which has been
presented to the monastery from all countries of the World. The museum is a must see – it is filled with icons, mosaic’s
and paintings which have been donated throughout the centuries and are still in outstanding condition.
