'Waste not, Want not!'Don’t forget to compostAlthough compostable items are accepted in the green bin program, the Town ofNewmarket encourages all residents to continue to use backyard composters.Compost produces an excellent soil conditioner and is a less costly way to divertorganic waste from landfill.Composters are available year roundat the Town of NewmarketOperations Centre1275 Maple Hill Court for $20(cash or cheque only).Composting tips• Always keep your compostmaterial as moist as a dampsponge.• Chop waste into smaller bitsfor faster decomposition.• Don't add thick layers of anyone material (particularlygrass), mix it with othermaterials instead.• Mix similar quantities ofbrown and green materialsin your composter.• Continue to compostthroughout the winter.The composting processslows down but speeds upagain in the spring.
