The financial year 2006-07 has ended on a positive note, financially and operationally. Strong
demand from steel industry worldwide has been an important factor for the encouraging
results. However, optimum use of key resources like chrome ore and electricity has been our
objective, to keep costs under control. We need to achieve longterm viability, as market prices
and demand do and will fluctuate. Further integration to coal mining and expansion of electricity
generation is now pursued expeditiously for adequate fundamental strength.

Milestone event in November 2009 was placement of final orders for 120 MW power plant expansion, at Choudwar.
The project is now under way. With extensive preparatory work on technical and commercial aspects, we are
confident of moving forward as per schedule. The additional generation capacity shall add to our integration
strengths and shall provide opportunity for new business plans.
Ferro chrome industry was anxiously waiting and hoping for market revival. Our market has improved somewhat,
but not enough to meet the cost pressures and the financial needs of the industry. We are hoping for growth in
stainless steel production, leading to better demand for ferro chrome in 2010, for fundamental improvement in the
market.
The 16th Ekalabya Award function for sports was held recently. This unique distinction is motivating many a sports
person and we are proud to be promoting sports amongst the youth in Orissa.

EKALABYA AWARD 2008
Orissa’s internationally acclaimed teenage
Chess sensation Ms. Padmini Rout was
conferred the coveted Ekalabya Award
for 2008 for her outstanding achievement
at a special function held at Bhubaneswar
on 30.08.2009. The award committee had
unanimously selected Ms Padmini from
among 11 short-listed candidates for this prestigious award.
The award, instituted by the Indian Metals Public Charitable
Trust (IMPaCT), the charitable wing of the IMFA Group of
industries, is the most prestigious award for sports in Orissa.
It carries a cash award of Rs. One lakh & a citation. Hon'ble
Health Minister Prasanna Acharya, the chief guest on the
occasion, presented the award in presence of Sports & Youth
Services Affairs Minister Prabin Bhanja Deo, IMFA Group
founder & Executive Chairman Dr. B Panda and Mr. Baijayant
Panda, Parliamentarian, Chairman Ekalabya Puraskar
Committee & IMPaCT Trustee. Women athlete Ms. Shrabani
Nanda and rowing talent Mr. Rohit Kumar Swain were also
felicitated with citations and cash award of Rs.10, 000 each on
the occasion for their achievements in their respective fields.

MOU SIGNED
IMFA singed a MOU with Thermax on 05.11.2009 in presence
of all top executives from both the companies for 120 MW
power plant at Choudwar.

IMFA Employees Club Annual function Celebration
IMFA Employees Club celebrated its Annual function on
26.4.2009. On this occasion, Mr D K Mohanty,VP(O) and Mrs
Sanjukta Mohanty, President IMFA Ladies Club attended the
function and distributed the prizes to the winners of different
competitions conducted by the Club for its members and
their families. Mr D Senapati gave the welcome address. Mr N
N Mishra, Secretary of the club coordinated the program.

Provision of Neutral Grounding Resistor in 1600
KVA transformer
A Neutral Grounding Resistor with earth leakage protection
has been provided in the neutral earthing system of 1600 KVA
Transformer at N C Mines which trips both primary and
secondary breaker of this transformer when leakage current
exceeds 300 MA and provides safety from electrical shock.

The Oriya new year was celebrated on 13.04.2009, the
auspicious day of Maha Vishuva Sankranti at Nuasahi with

Respirable Dust Monitoring System In Ambient Air
In order to monitor the respirable suspended particulate
matter(RSPM) in ambient air, a Portable Respirable dust
sampler has been installed to take suitable corrective action to
improve working condition and respiratory health of
employees.
Surveillance Audit for ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 &
Up-gradation Audit for OHSAS 18001:2007
The surveillance audit of ISO 9001:2000 (QMS) & ISO
14001:2004 (EMS) & up-gradation to OHSAS 18001:2007
from earlier OHSAS 18001:1999 version was carried out by
M/s IRQS auditor during 12th to 14th May 2009 . The audit
was successful without any Non conformity. The audit team
had recommended for continuation of ISO 9001:2000 & ISO
14001:2004 certification & recommended for up-gradation to
OHSAS 18001:2007 certification.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
The world environment day 2009 was jointly celebrated on
5th June 2009. The day began with Pravat Pheri by the colony
children with placards. Environmental banners were displayed
at key locations with this years UNEP (United Nations
Environmental Program) message “Your Planet Needs You !
Unite to Combat Climate Change”. The environmental pledge
was administered by Mr. B.D.Sahoo, EVP(O), Dr. D. K. Rout,
Regional Officer, SPCB, Cuttack, Mr. S. K. Panigrahi, Manager
(TQM) & Coordinator of World environment Day celebration
in English, Oriya & Hindi respectively.
At UMSL, the environmental pledge was administered by Mr.
B. D. Sahoo, Dr. D. K. Rout, & Mr. T. V. Rao, GM
(Projects) in Hindi, Oriya & English respectively. A
plantation program was inaugurated by Dr. D. K. Rout, Chief
Guest & Mr. B. D. Sahoo at FAD area, ARC road side near
Colony -II. Other Sr. executives, workmen & local people also
participated in the plantation drive. Around 100 saplings were
planted during the occasion. Various competitions like sit &
draw, poster making & quiz were organized. An environmental
awareness training and a quiz competition were organized for
contract workers at IMFA & FAD and for colony ladies at
Recreation Club Colony-II. Mr. S. K. Panigrahi, Manager
(TQM) & Mr. M. M. Mukherjee, Manager (QC) were the
faculty for the environmental awareness training. Debate
competition was organized for company workmen. Slogan
competition in Oriya, Hindi & English was organized for the
employees & their family members.
Mr. B D Sahoo presided at the closing ceremony of world
environment Day on 5th June 09 evening at Staff Club, IMFA,
Choudwar. The local senior citizens & other dignitaries
attended the ceremony. A video presentation was screened
on Water Conservation, Effect of Global Warming on Animals
& Plantation. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the
various competitions by Mr. B. D. Sahoo & Mr. B. N. Parija,
Ex-Chairman, Choudwar Municipality.

MAY DAY
On the occasion of May Day, which is celebrated world over
as Shramik Diwas, debate & quiz competitions were organised
for the employees and their children respectively. This year
the theme of the debate was “Arthanaitika Manda Abastare
Shramikar Bhumika”. Both the competitions were
successfully coordinated by Mr R N Panigrahi & Mr P K
Mohanty. A function was organised at the IMFA Staff Club
premises at Colony-1 in which Mr L Ekka, Dy Labour
Commissioner was the Chief Guest. Mr B D Sahoo delivered
the welcome address. Prizes to the winners of the various
competitions were distributed by the Chief Guest. Mr
Haribandhu Jena senior Employee and the Executive body
member of IMFA Shramik Pratinidhi Mandali delivered
May Day messages. The members of IMFA Sangita Prativa
presented the opening chorus song. Mr R N Panigrahi, Sr
Manager (Admn) offered the vote of thanks. Winners of the

The Raja festival was organized at IMFA staff club on
14.06.2009. 3 beautiful swings (Raja Doli) were installed at
staff club. The colony children presented a colorful cultural
program in the evening organized by the ladies club. The
Housie game & Lucky Draw was also part of the function. The
prizes were distributed to the participants of the cultural
program by Mr. B. D. Sahoo. A playing card competition for
mixed doubles & singles was organized among the members.

15.06.2009. The winners of various events organised for

Maha Bisuva Sankranti was celebrated at IMFA Recreation
Club on 14.04.2009 with a Yagyan performed in the morning
and distribution of sweet packets to all the club members. In
the evening Bisuba Milana was organised with traditional Oriya
drinks 'Bella Pana' for everyone's delight.
DIVINE & DIVINITY
Sri Ram Navami & Basantika Durga Pooja
Nine day long Sri Ram Navami and Basantika Durga Pooja
was celebrated at Lord Sri Ram Temple from 26.03.2009 to
03.04.2009. A huge crowd thronged the temple premises. In
all the evenings people gathered in huge numbers to listen
divine discourse from Maharaj Abhiram Dash and Bhajan
numbers from IMFA Sangeet Prativa.

Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated on 14.04.2009. Hanuman
Chalisha team from Bhubaneswar led by Mr Ashok Panda

Pratistha Diwas was celebrated in IMFA Colony No.II,
Champakeswar temple on 28.06.2009. Colony dwellers of
both the colonies attended the pooja in large numbers. In the
evening the Bhajan Sandhya was presented by in house melody
team Sangeet Prativa. Mrs & Mr S S Mishra of MMD
performed the rituals of Karta.

Kalinga Vidyapitha
Kalinga Vidyapitha, Choudwar achieved 100% result in the
10th class examination conducted by Board of Secondary
Education, Orissa in the year 2009. Ms Subhashree Rout
stood 2 nd in the list of best ten. Mr Anshuman Mohapatra
secured 96th position in best hundred in the State.
The Pilot Story
The photographer for a national magazine was assigned to get
photos of a great forest fire. Smoke at the scene was too
thick to get any good shots, so he frantically called his home
office to hire a plane.
'It will be waiting for you at the airport!' he was assured by his
editor. As soon as he got to the small, rural airport, sure
enough, a plane was warming up near the runway. He jumped
in with his equipment and yelled, 'Let's go! Let's go!' The pilot
swung the plane into the wind and soon they were in the air.
'Fly over the north side of the fire,' said the photographer,
'and make three or four low level passes.'
'Why?' asked the pilot.
'Because I'm going to take pictures! I'm a photographer, and
photographers take pictures!' said the photographer with
great exasperation.
After a long pause the pilot said, 'You mean you're not my
flying instructor.'

Crocodiles
Telephone rings in a house. A man picks up the phone. The
agitated voice on the other end began to shout something
about a terrible accident.
- Wait a moment, slow down, please, - the man said, - I can't
get a thing what you are talking about.
The person on the other end of the line calmed a little and
began again. Finally the man got it that it is the director of the
local zoo who is calling him and with certain apprehension it
dawned on him that his wife and mother-in-law were
supposed to visit the zoo this same morning.
- So, what have happened? - the man asked.
- But I am telling you the last ten minutes already! - the zoo
director yelled in frustration, - It was the terrible accident!
Your mother-in-law fell into the crocodile pool!
- Oh, yeah?! - now the man yelled back, - They are your

Padmashree Tulsi Munda pioneered what is today in Orissa a
phenomenon, the growing strength of women and spread of
literacy among the tribal people runs a voluntary organisation

Police Hospital Renovated at Bhubaneswar
Police hospital at Jaydev Vihar, Bhubaneswar has been
renovated by IMFA. The renovated hospital was inaugurated
by Police Commissioner Mr. B K Sharma on 25.10.2009. Mr.
Jayant Misra, Director (Corporate) and Mr. Sanjeev Das,
SGM(CA) also attended the function.

Under Drinking Water and Sanitation program Tube-wells
were repaired at Dhanurjaypur Panchayat,Balibarei Panchayat,
Bangore Panchayat, Padhiaripally Panchayat and at K Balipal
Panchayat. Also a tube-well platform has been constructed at
Nuasahi Village under Dhanurjaypur Panchayat.

IEX organized a Seminar on “Journey to Competitive Power
Markets” on 08.07.09 at New Delhi. Panel Discussion had

with Special Emphasis on Day Ahead and Term Ahead Market.
