Prayers are an integral part of the School curriculum, thus, thereis no question of separation of religion from the secular realm. Everyday, from Monday to Thursday, when the middayprayer time commences, students rush to the bathrooms to perform the ritual ablution while one of themproclaims the adhaan (the call to prayer). The Sheikh then leads the prayers in which all students, unless excused, must join in. Thus, what is taught in the classroom as part of the curriculum is seen in action too. Similarly, duringthe Month of Ramadhan, females of 9 and above and males 13 and above must keep the mandatory fast and nomeals are provided to them by the School. The Qur’an besides being taught in the classrooms is also recited in theassembly and in the buses as students arrive and leave the school premises.Page 6 of 12
