Transitional Housing “What UCM gave me was a bridge for life. I can never say enough how much UCM helped me.” -Asegedech, CHRP Program Graduate UCM manages three two-year transitional housing programs. These programs truly transform people’s lives, giving them not only a home, but also the support needed to move from homelessness and trauma to independent living. The Journeys Program is designed to help families who are fleeing domestic violence. The Bridge Program works with individuals with mental illness and/or substance abuse challenges. The Community Housing Resources Program (CHRP) moves families from homelessness to stability. Housing Programs FY 2011 Accomplishments Moved 42 individuals from 15 households out of homelessness and into permanent housing Engaged program participants in monthly life skills workshops Provided participants access to appropriate employment, mental health, substance abuse, child care and educational resources
“The community center’s programs make this neighborhood a stronger, safer place to live.” -Kesha, Creekside Village Community Resident and Center Volunteer Neighborhood Development Sacramento Neighborhood Center and Community in Action (CIA) at Creekside Community Center together served fifteen low-income communities. The programs are transformative of individuals and neighborhoods as residents of all ages become engaged in their community, learning to lead and make positive changes that strengthen the environment in which their families live. Neighborhood Development FY 2011 Accomplishments Engaged more than 1,350 adults and youth living in the Sacramento and Creekside Village neighborhoods in community programming, leadership development activities and educational opportunities Partnered with numerous organizations including Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club, Fort Hunt Elementary School PTA, Destination Smile, Hispanic Institute for the Prevention of Blindness and many others to provide resources, mentorship and health screenings to community residents
