FolsomLeadership Award dinnerwas an incredible success,raising more than $1 million <strong>for</strong><strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>System</strong>. The 2009mid-May celebration honored NormanBrinker <strong>for</strong> his leadership, businessand sports accomplishments, andcommitment to the Dallas community.Mr. Brinker, who twice experienced<strong>life</strong>-threatening emergencies resultingfrom sports accidents, requested thatthe event benefit emergency andtrauma services. The gift will be usedto support the newly named NormanBrinker Emergency and TraumaServices at <strong>Methodist</strong> Dallas MedicalCenter, which will serve more than60,000 patients annually.“We are grateful <strong>for</strong> Norman Brinker’sfriendship, and it was an honor <strong>for</strong>us to highlight his leadership andaccomplishments among so manyfriends as he received this prestigiousaward,” said <strong>Methodist</strong> FoundationPresident and CEO April BoxChamberlain. “As is our tradition withthis event, we took the passion of therecipient and coupled that with theneeds of <strong>Methodist</strong>. Mansfield, Doug Brooks, and Norman BrinkerFolsom Award recipients, Mr. Perotinvited the guest of honor to receive hisaward. At that point motorcycles roaredthrough the ballroom and Mr. Brinkerrode in with his friends from StrokersDallas. Mr. Perot exclaimed, “He makesquite an entrance!”Attention was then turned to amoving video tribute to Mr. Brinkergenerously underwritten by NancyAnn and Ray Hunt. The words andstories offered by Ruth Altshuler,Linda Custard, Margaret Folsom,Ebby Halliday, Lou Neeb, RobertPayne, Cindy Brinker Simmons,and John Titus revealed the depth ofappreciation and high esteem held<strong>for</strong> Mr. Brinker.Following the video, the Rev. DonBenton gave the dinner invocation.Through the evening, the accolades<strong>for</strong> Mr. Brinker continued withevent co-chairmen Doug Brooksand Pete Schenkel speaking on Mr.Brinker’s leadership and influence intheir lives. Preceding Mr. Schenkel’sannouncement of the new NormanBrinker Emergency and TraumaServices at <strong>Methodist</strong> Dallas wasa dramatic montage highlighting<strong>Methodist</strong> Dallas’ trauma services andcare provided to dozens of Dallas policeand firefighters.Steve Folsom, chairman of the boardof trustees <strong>for</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>Health</strong><strong>System</strong> Foundation, then presentedthe Robert S. Folsom LeadershipAward to Norman Brinker. Mr.Brinker accepted his award and said,“Thank you.
