PUBLIC AFFAIRS& MARKETING7Year <strong>2007</strong> has been yet another positiveyear for the Public Affairs and MarketingDepartment. The sponsorship and donationcollection has been recorded as the highestever achieved by the department since theestablishment of the zoo over 44 years ago.A record breaking amount of RM 740,370 wascollected from corporate establishments for thewelfare of the animals, education fund and minordevelopment around the zoo. The departmentwould like to thank loyal sponsors such as HSBCMalaysia Berhad, ExxonMobil, Tractors Malaysia,Ambank Group, Maybank and PETRONAS for theircontinuous support towards the zoo. New sponsorsare also truly appreciated and the departmentwould like to show gratitude to Bank Rakyat fortheir contribution towards Macaws and Cockatoosand Sekolah Sri KDU for their contribution to theAsiatic Black Bears.Besides gaining the highest amount for sponsorship,the Public Affairs and Marketing Department wasable to achieve an increase in visitor flow in <strong>2007</strong>.The amount 849,799 is the highest ever achieve inthe past six years. An additional of 69,000 visitorsflooded the zoo and this was made possible with thesupport from the Group CEO, Television Networksof Media Prima Berhad, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Sri FaridRidzuan. TV3, NTV 7, Channel 9 and 8TV has beenkind enough to promote <strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> throughout<strong>2007</strong> giving the zoo free publicity through muchneeded media coverage. The department wouldlike to take this opportunity to thank the mediabodies in this country for their support towards thecountry’s National <strong>Zoo</strong>. ASTRO, RTM, Bernama,Utusan Press, NSTP, Karangkraf, The Star, NanyangSiang Pow, China Press, Sin Chew Jit Poh, GuangMing Daily, Oriental Daily and Malaysian Nambanhave all played their roles in helping to promote<strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong>.Production Houses and Advertising Agencies havealso conducted many filming, interviews and photoshoots that have simultaneously promote the zoo.The Department would like to thank Barry GladmoreProduction, Gemilang Networks, Lumayan Digital,Untold Images, JAKIM, Finas, CFC Productions,Wayang Tinggi Productions, KL Motion Picture,Serangkai Holdings, Cinematic, Sketch 7, AlphaHijau, World Islamic Network, B&W Films, CATCHA,Kota Rentang, Niche Films and Full Record Channelfor their coverage. Magazines have also assistedus greatly with promotions and many thanks toKuntum, Malaysian Tatler, E-Baca and Her Worldfor the coverage.Dr Brady Barr has again assisted the zoo byincluding <strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> in two of the episodes ofCroc Chronicles. He was at the zoo to measurethe bite force of the hippopotamuses and the gripforce of the reticulated pythons. The Departmentwould like to thank National Geographic for theircontinuous support. A total of 73 filming, interviewand photo shoot was conducted in <strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> in<strong>2007</strong>.Organizing events and activities is the specialtyof this department and a total of 55 events wereorganized and conducted in the course of <strong>2007</strong>.<strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> launched its first children storybookentitled ‘Manja, the Orangutan’ in March <strong>2007</strong>.This storybook tells the life story of Manja theshow orangutan and projects a valuable messageto children on the need to conserve wildlife. Thisbook was sponsored by HSBC Malaysia Berhad.The zoo also launched its first primary schoolworkbook on ‘Animal Classification’ which is inaccordance to the science syllabus in May <strong>2007</strong>. Itis distributed freely to primary 4,5 and 6 studentsthroughout the country. The production of theworkbook was made possible by the sponsorshipfrom ExxonMobil.
PUBLIC AFFAIRS& MARKETINGFriends of <strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> - Petrosains, TRAFFIC,Malaysian Alliance on Tigers (MyCAT), YODA andKiwanis have once again collaborated with <strong>Zoo</strong><strong>Negara</strong> in many events and activities throughoutthe year. Petrosains with their Sahabat Petrosainsevent in February involved bringing nativechildren to the city to learn about the country’sdevelopment and on science. The MalaysianAlliances on Tigers (MyCat) also collaborate with<strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> to conduct a Tiger Day at the zoothemed – Race Against Time. This event was partof MyCat’s nationwide awareness campaign toreduce consumption of tigers and tiger’s prey.The Department also conducted promotionsoutside <strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> and had received a free boothallocation in PWTC during the biggest fair in thecountry – the Smartkids <strong>2007</strong> Education Fair. The3-day exhibition allows the department to conducta series of activities which include storytellingsessions, awareness on conservation and adonation campaign.In order to keep up minor maintenance around thezoo, the Department received an overwhelmingresponse from the corporate sector in the form ofcommunity projects. SHARP, ExxonMobil, HSBC,TV3 and many others had pledge their time andmanpower to spruce up the zoo throughout theyear. A series of painting activities has assistedthe zoo greatly and exhibits for the tigers, lions,primates and bears look almost brand new dueto a fresh coat of paint! Thank you corporatevolunteers!Children have always been the life and heart of <strong>Zoo</strong><strong>Negara</strong>. Without children there will be no need ofa zoo! <strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> would like to thank PETRONASand Carlsberg for conducting Children’s Day at<strong>Zoo</strong> <strong>Negara</strong> in November and December.
