The 86-3100 Grain Size AssessmentModule has been designed for use witheither the OmniMet® Express ImageAnalysis System or OmniMet®Enterprise Image Analysis System andprovides automatic measurement of thegrain size according to the requirementsof ASTM E112, E1181, E930 andISO 643.Routines are provided to conduct fullyautomated analysis or replicatetraditional methods. Select the methodthat best meets your needs.Automated Analysis of grain size isaccomplished by first detecting thegrain boundaries based on grayscaledifferences brought out by etching.Once the grains are well defined thegrain size can be calculated in threedifferent ways:• Field Grain Size - this approachemploys all of the rows and columnsof pixels as intersection lines tocalculate the grain size for each fieldof view.• Feature Grain Size - The size of eachindividual grain can be determinedbased on area. The grains can then besorted into categories and therelative area fraction occupied byeach grain size can be calculated. Thisis particularly helpful whenexamining duplex structures orestimating the largest grain observed(ALA grain size).• Grid Overlays - The OmniMetsoftware counts the number ofintersections in each field.
