In 2012, 94,269 children received hearing and vision screenings by<strong>Kent</strong> <strong>County</strong> Health Department (KCHD) Technicians.KCHD Laboratory Technicians test more than 140 clinical andenvironmental samples a day.KCHD works with nearly 23,000 families a month to make sure theyare getting health and dietary counseling and assistance through theWomen, Infant and Children Program.

Every day, services and programs offered at the <strong>Kent</strong> <strong>County</strong> HealthDepartment (KCHD) impact the lives of residents and visitors. If you eat in arestaurant, have a child in school, swim in a public pool, own or rent a home, oruse well water or a septic system, our staff is working to protect you and yourfamily.KCHD continually assesses the health of the community and ensures that mandatedservices are accessible for all residents. KCHD investigates the causes ofdisease, epidemics, morbidity and mortality, and environmental health hazards.The department plans and implements public education and enforces publichealth laws. KCHD is involved with the following programs: vision and hearingscreening, public water supplies, private and Type II groundwater supplies, foodservice sanitation, immunization, sexually transmitted infections, on-site sewagedisposal and general communicable disease control.Recently, the KCHD helped bring 80+ health care organizations, social serviceagencies and community groups together to develop a Community HealthNeeds Assessment (CHNA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP)for <strong>Kent</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Input came from a diverse group of individuals throughout<strong>Kent</strong> <strong>County</strong>, with a broad range of life experiences and economic backgrounds.The CHNA Steering Committee narrowed the list of issues presented to the Top5 Strategic Priorities. Community-developed goals, objectives, and strategies toaddress these priorities will be the roadmap to making <strong>Kent</strong> <strong>County</strong> a healthierplace to live, work and play.This department will continue to monitor quality improvement as it seeksnational accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board. Thisprocess will develop standards and measures that challenge employees to meetor exceed those measures.
