third programme of law reform 2008-2014Ireland. The topics contained in this Programme reflect a society which is currentlyin a process of great change. It is equally clear that the topics will present enormouschallenges to the Commission to continue the interdisciplinary research which has beenan increasing feature of our work under the Second Programme of Law Reform. Thatwork has also greatly benefited from a growing realisation that law reform proposalscannot easily fit within a particular area of law nor of governmental responsibility butinvolve cross-cutting issues that require integrated responses across a number ofbodies and institutions. We look forward to initiating and completing the projects set out in the Third Programmeof Law Reform and also responding to any other areas of law referred to us by theAttorney General under the 1975 Act. We acknowledge that the successful completionof these projects will depend upon consultation with members of the legal profession, with experts from other disciplines, and with interested parties and organisations. TheCommission is ready and eager to embark on a new Programme which contains manychallenging, interesting and important law reform projects. The Hon Mrs. Justice Catherine McGuinnessPresidentvii
