Insulin pump therapy is a treatment that closely mimics the normal insulin secretion of the pancreas,
providing a constant supply of regular insulin or fast-acting insulin analogue to your body as well as
extra doses of the same insulin to adjust for the food you eat.The basal rates cover your basic insulin
requirements independent of food intake.They are determined individually with your health care
professional on the basis of blood glucose monitoring and are programmed into the insulin pump. It
automatically maintains those rates day and night.
Insulin pump therapy can provide tigther control of diabetes and tight control can reduce the
risk of long-term complications.*
The basal rates:
• up to 24 variable hourly basal rates for the individual insulin requirements
• insulin delivery every 3 minutes in quantities as small as 0.005 units
• a selection of basal rate profiles for differing daily rhythms
(e.g. weekdays/weekends/vacation ...)
• temporary increase or decrease of the basal rate profiles from 0-200%
without changing the programmed profile (not a constant basal rate like
other insulin pumps)

In addition to the daily basal rate, you need extra doses of insulin (bolus) to take care of meals.
Using an insulin pump allows you greater flexibility in meal timing and size. If you decide to skip
breakfast – just omit the bolus. If your lunch is larger than usual - just give a larger bolus.
The boluses:
• standard bolus: program your insulin delivery using preset amounts, even through
your clothes
• scroll bolus: program your insulin delivery with variable amounts
• extended bolus: program the amount and the duration of your bolus for big meals
or slow digesting ones.

Parameters can be quickly and easily read from the D-TRONplus to a PC, changed, and then written

DiaLog is available in the Standard Version, developed especially for pump users, and the Professional
Version, developed especially for health care professionals.
