Parish Transport RepresentativesORCC, Oxfordshire Association of Local Councils (OALC) andOxfordshire County Council (OCC) established a network of ParishTransport Representatives (PTR) in 1986 to give communities ameans of voicing their needs and concerns about local transport.With useful local knowledge and contacts and an interest in publictransport services, a PTR can help identify and address thetransport needs of their community.If you are interested in becoming a PTR please contact theCommunity Transport Adviser at ORCC or the Public TransportTeam at OCC for more information. They will also be able tosupply contact details of any PTR that your community mightalready have.- 55 -
Useful ContactsOxfordshire Rural Community Council (ORCC)ORCC has a transport officer that is financially supported byOxfordshire County Council (OCC) and by some of the DistrictCouncils specifically to assist volunteer groups, parish councils andcommunities to access services by the provision of transportschemes which complement public transport.The Community Transport Adviser (CTA) provides on-goinginformation, advice and support service for community transportschemes including information, advice and training on:• Opportunities to benefit from new and existing funding orother support initiatives e.g. the Octabadge scheme• New legislation or other policy developments affecting CToperations• Effective community transport operational practice• Recruitment and support of volunteersPromotes the concept and possibility of community transportprovision particularly in villages where an existing transport serviceis threatened or withdrawn and/or in the interests of reducing thecommunity’s carbon footprint.Provides advice and community project development to supportrural communities wishing to establish a new community transportservice in response to an identified need.Investigates and documents local needs including facilitation andanalysis of local transport needs surveys in response to OCC areabus service reviews.The officer is: Emily LewisEmail: emily.lewis@oxonrcc.org.uk Tel: 01865 883488- 56 -
