His startin the field grew out of his experience asan Air Force tactical reconnaissance pilot.He went on to help develop curriculumand simulations for the Air Force, creatinginteractive multimedia environments forpilot training.“It’s easy to believe new media is justentertainment. But it’s a growing part ofindustry – medical and scientific visualization,animations for the space shuttle andsatellites, visual communications,” Alleysaid. “We’re a visual culture. Students withthese skills can go out and find a job in alot of different places.”MARKETING OFFICE WINS MORE AWARDSOC’s <strong>University</strong> Marketing Office wonthree ADDYs at the 2006 <strong>Oklahoma</strong> CityAdvertising Club Awards. VIEW, OC’smagazine-style viewbook, and Eagle Edge,produced for the annual “Earn YourWings” new student orientation, both wongold awards for first place in their categories.OC’s t-shirt advertising campaignreceived a bronze medal.OC also won Admissions MarketingReport awards for the third straight year,competing against schools of 2,000-4,999students from across the nation. The universitywon gold for the t-shirt campaignand bronze for VIEW and for the newathletic logo.“I am thrilled that our hardworking andtalented designers, writers, and entire staffare receiving the honor of these awards,”Director of Admissions and MarketingRisa Forrester said. “The marketing teamplays such an important role at <strong>Oklahoma</strong><strong>Christian</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Student Josh Hatfieldand recent graduate Allison Shumate, nowthe school’s communications coordinator,also worked on the projects as marketinginterns.In addition to OC’s marketing office,other OC alumni winning ADDY awardsincluded Aaron Cahill, Jarrod Drysdale,Jesse Owen, Lucas Ross and Tim Watson.OC HOSTS GUEST DESIGNEROC’s national award-winning art anddesign program hosted acclaimed designerJeff Barfoot for a presentation to studentsin January.Barfoot reviewed student portfolios andgave a talk on creativity during his visit.The event also kicked off a month-longexhibit of his work in OC’s <strong>University</strong> Gallery.Barfoot is the co-founder of theNational Student Show and Conference,the nation’s largest creative competitionand conference for communication artsstudents. He also is a founding partner ofGoldhouse Animation Studios, helping toproduce award-winning short animationout of Los Angeles.Early in his career, Barfoot was thecreator of a nationally-syndicated cartoonstrip, one of the youngest persons toachieve this goal.
