FAMILY DAY1:00 p.m. FEBRUARY 20, 2012Fort Macleod Auction, Fort Macleod, AB

Welcome to the 6th Annual PowerPak Bull Sale!!The PowerPak bull breeders are pleased to bringyou another great set of Red and Black Simmental andRed Angus bulls for our 6th annual sale. What a strong calf market we had this fall, and withthe North American cowherd due to bottom out in 2013we can look forward to the prices holding and increasing.I’m sure many of you received more for your calveslast fall than you ever expected. It was very obvious thatthe big, soggy calves returned the most money. We arein a large cattle feeding area so there is a constantdemand for calves that will perform well for the feedlotoperator and for the packer. These young bulls havegreat value and your older bulls that need culling willpay a good portion of their purchase price. These high prices make it difficult to start savingreplacement heifers and building your herd but whatbetter time. The F1 heifers produced by these bulls willincrease the production of your herd by increasing fertility, growth and carcass characteristics and of coursehybrid vigor. The dams of these bulls were selected forstrong maternal characteristics and they will pass thaton to their daughters. Most of the bulls sold over the last several yearshave gone to repeat buyers, a testament that the purchaserswere happy with them and we sincerely appreciatethis confidence in our programs. This might be a good year to get your bull buyingdone early because as we get on into spring, prices willtend to skyrocket. A PowerPak bull is a good investmentand the breeders stand behind their product.See you at the sale for an opportunity to buy agreat bull and remember Tony’s barbeque beef andPowerPak hospitality at the conclusion.SincerelyThe PowerPak Bull Sale GrouptWin BUtteSimmentAlSTony, Lorraine, Nathan& Tannis Bruder403-627-542519 Black & RedSimmentalYearlingBullsJ AnchorSimmentAlSMurray &MarilynJacobson403-381-460911 Yearling Black &Red Simmental Bulls14 Red AngusYearling BullsnhD SimmentAlSNorm & HeatherDodd403-626-322311 Yearling RedSimmental BullsYArroW creekrAnch reDAngUSDennis Lastuka& Linda Noecker403-315-2614

Prices are reflecting the work we putinto our cow herds and those of you that sold your calves last fall are more than likely verypleased with the cheque you took home. Those that carry their calves over to finish will bepaid very well for your extra work. Cull cow and bull prices are very strong, and if the projectionsare correct, they will be even stronger in the near future. The spring of 2011 was tough, if you can call it spring. I feel for those of you who calvein April and May. You had some harsh weather. But once summer came, it was great catchour Beautiful Valley We call home!!up weather. The fall here was a great working and grazing fall. We kept the calves on the cows until October 2nd this year. The pastures were good and thecalves gained well. We did not creep feed at all this year, so the bulls did it themselves with the help of their mama’s.All natural production. We have a strong group of bulls this year. With the slow spring, they caught up well on summergrass. As always they have been culled hard for foot and leg structure. There dam’s all have very good udders. Andwhen you walk through them you will see how quiet they are.We invite you to come and view the bulls and their dams before the sale. We are proud of our herd that we havework for the past 25 years to produce. Feel free to question us on the bulls, their dams and sires, and our feeding program. We are in this business because we enjoy working with our customers to produce a very saleable product foryour chosen market. We look forward to working with you into the future.Tony, Lorraine, Nathan, & Tannis – Twin Butte Simmentalsref. Seven of our nineteen bulls are descendants of 5F, one anembryo calf, two out of daughters, and four out of grand daughters. Itdoesn’t matter if they come out red or black, they are good productivecattle. If you don’t have any 5F influence in your herd, it’s time. This cattlebusiness is only going to get stronger and stronger over the next 5-10 years andwe wish you all the very best.J Anchor Simmentals - murray & marilyn JacobsonHAPPY TRAILS!Murray and Marilyn Jacobsonlot #31tWinSlot #32D2012 ePD’SPERCENTAGE MALE BPG716721- FGN 5U 18 January 2008NICHOLS BLK DESTINY G151ELLINGSON LEGACY M229 - US_2171761-ELLINGSON MS PSTOCK K58BF N324 TRIATHLONOLF LADY TRIATHLON S655 - US_2377701-OLF MISS REDLINE M378OLF ODIN U5NICHOLS BLK DESTINY D12NICHOLS DEBRA D81LRS PREFERRED STOCK 370CELLINGSON BL CLOUD D458TJ 57J THE GAMBLERPVF-BF MABELLE C131MEYER'S RED LINEOLF H16ce BW WW YW mce mW milk13.0 -2.5 27.8 58.6 4.7 20.0 6.1Lot #31 & #32 (TWINS):The grandsire of these bulls, Ellingson Legacy M229(Olie) has beenproducing bulls that are in demand all over North America. All of her calves have this kind of performance.Over Wintering Long Yearling BullsCare of young bulls after their first breeding season isimportant. Bulls should weigh 75 to 80 percent of their matureweight at the start of the second breeding season. If matureweight of the young bulls is estimated to be 2000lbs and at thebeginning of their first breeding season they are 1300(65% ofmature wt) pounds and they loose 200lbs during the first breedingseason, then to be 75% to 80% of their mature weight by thestart of the next breeding season, it calculates that they need togain 400 – 500 lbs.Between the end of their first breeding season and the startof their second breeding season, these young bulls need to gainabout 2lb/day. Young bulls will need some supplemental energyand protein before the second breeding season.Consider not trying to wait until right prior to the secondbreeding season to get young bulls back in their working clothesand at the desirable weight. For a spring breeding season, consider feeding these bullssome protein and energy beginning about Christmas time.Starting this early allows you to put weight back on graduallywith smaller amounts of a high energy feed. This doesn’t suggest young bulls be pampered in an artificialenvironment. It does suggest to at least give them a chanceto be productive and remain in the herd as long as you wantthem. The bull battery is an expensive investment so you want togive these young bulls the extra care and attention they need.Just overwintering them with the mature herd bulls is not goodenough to have them “locked and loaded” for the next breedingseason.Source: “University of Nebraska Beef Cattle Production Newsletter”“can we keep him, murray?”time on our hands & Available for hire!– 20 –

Happy New Year 2012 ☺It’s amazing how fast things can change in one year. Linda’s dad, Marcel Lammers, passedaway last year - he was a mentor, friend, father, grandfather, and husband to Alice Lammers formany years. It’s amazing how much I actually learned from the old guy; he will be missed. As I attended the Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Feeder Sales last fall it was the firsttime in a long time that I witnessed smiling faces on all the people at Fort Macleod Auction. It’sbeen a long time coming and as cow-calf producers we appreciate it.Well, this year I have new genetics for everyone with a new herd sire and multiple A.I. bullcalves. You will have your home work cut out for you and if you have any questions at all regardingthe sires please give me a callprior to the sale and I will answerWelcome to our ranch!!Dennis lastuka & linda noecker(right) William nicasthem the best I can. We weaned these bull calves on September 7 coming off grass that was starting toburn with the very hot summer we had (that was nice for a change too). All calves are vaccinated twicewith Ivomec and Boss Pour-On also during the year. No creep feeding has taken place so weaningweights are the real thing. The bulls were started slowly on just hay and moved up gradually to meet atarget of 3.0 lbs per day gain. This amount of gain grows them slowly while maturing their frame at thesame time.Looking forward to seeing you all again this year.
