A highlight ofthe sale is La Blouse Rouge, an importantImpressionist work by the French artistHenri-Edmond Cross. Dating to the mid-1880s, when Cross was emerging from hisearly, Realist phase to embrace thelighter palette and vibrant brushwork ofImpressionism, the painting is a superbexample of this joyful moment in his artisticlife. In the shimmering reflections oflight on the polished floor and the brilliantflecks of green in the landscape, wecan clearly see Cross’s response to thework of his colleagues Monet and Pissarro.Such paintings would later have aprofound impact on the work of Matisseand Derain.
