Bishop Frederick Drandua - TUALU

……After considering the many conveniences of having two
Vicars General……… By a Decree issued on 8 th December
1982, I have appointed Rev. Fr. Frederick Drandua as my
Vicar General in the administration of the Logbara area of
the Diocese of Arua……… they have the title Monsignor
and can wear its insignia.
This information guided us in tracing the life of Frederick Drandua as Vicar
General under his late Bishop Angelo Tarantino. It also helped us to establish the
trust and confidence that his late Bishop put in him as a capable church leader.
In the Leadership 6 of June 1998, in an article entitled “Bro. John Okello”, the
following is noted about the late Bishop Angelo Tarantino and his successor
Bishop Frederick Drandua:
… ……But by then the Bishop had had enough and he
insisted with the Pro-Nuncio that a man in better health
than him be put at the helm of the Diocese. In December
1984 his resignations were accepted and a year later a
successor was put in his place, the present Bishop
Frederick Drandua …………
This information helped us to examine the circumstances that led to the rise of
Frederick Drandua to the Episcopal office of Arua as the first African Bishop.
In the Acts of the First Synod in Arua Diocese 7 the members of the Post-Synodal
Commission thanked Bishop Drandua for appointing them to codify the Synod
documents and for delegating them in the work of evangelisation.
This information was used to analyse Frederick Drandua’s approach towards his
episcopal duties. It showed that he used the method of consultation and involved
