Upd<strong>at</strong>e: <strong>Chicago</strong> C<strong>at</strong>z <strong>at</strong> UICOn Thursday July 19th, the <strong>Chicago</strong> C<strong>at</strong>zperformed for the <strong>Chicago</strong> Jazz Academy. TheAcademy is a summer program held <strong>at</strong> the Universityof Illinois Circle Campus <strong>and</strong> run by Orbert Davis<strong>and</strong> the crew with the <strong>Chicago</strong> Jazz Philharmonic.The 2 week summer program is for students ages5th – 12th grade. Students particip<strong>at</strong>e in individual,small <strong>and</strong> large class groups <strong>and</strong> in ensemblessuch as Jazz B<strong>and</strong>, Drumline, <strong>and</strong> H<strong>and</strong> Chimes.Additional courses offered range from InstrumentTechnique to Jazz Aesthetics in addition to collegeinform<strong>at</strong>ion including financial aid.The kids saw the movie Stony Isl<strong>and</strong>. Written<strong>and</strong> directed by <strong>Chicago</strong> n<strong>at</strong>ive Andrew Davis,brother of CFM member Richie Davis, Stony Isl<strong>and</strong>is a look <strong>at</strong> a group of aspiring musicians tryingto “make it” in the world of popular music.
