Triguard SC300E
The Triguard SC300E is a safety controller
specifically designed for maximum availability
for industrial safety and control applications.
The Triguard SC300E system was created by
pioneering ABB August (formerly August
Systems), and has evolved along with
contemporary technological progress over the
last twenty years. It has a fully triplicated
(TMR) system architecture from input
module to output module. The three
processors and triplicated I/O circuitry are
completely transparent to the user. Triguard
SC300E is TÜV approved according to RC
1-6 (SIL 1-3). It is a system of
standard identical chassis, each chassis
housing duplex load sharing power
supplies, I/O and communication
modules as required by the
application, while the first one houses
the three processors. A single system
may be as small as one chassis or as
large as fifteen, giving a potential
maximum of 9,500 I/O.
Operating system
The Triguard SC300E has an
operating system known as Real
Time Task Supervisor (RTTS), which is
installed in each of the three processors.
During start-up and operation, RTTS runs
comprehensive diagnostic routines that check
and validate the correct operating parameters
of each processor. Triguard can be used for
emergency shutdown, process shutdown,
critical process control, fire & gas monitoring
and detection, rotating machinery control
and virtually any other industrial safety and
control application.
Programming
Application control logic for the
Triguard SC300E is programmed in the
Tribuild Engineering Workstation, a software
package for Windows 95/98/NT, using relay
ladder logic & structured networks.
Hardware
The Triguard SC300E safety controller, like
its predecessors, uses Intel processor
technology, with up to 4 MB RAM and a 1
MB EPROM. It has a real-time clock for
data logging with a resolution of 10 ms.
All I/O module types provided for the
Triguard SC300E share an element of
common design, providing component
rationalization and implementing distributed
processing. I/O-modules can be fitted in any
of the 10 slots in any chassis. They can be
configured for single slot repair or dual slot
repair.
In the Triguard range of I/O-modules are
included a line of high-end modules specific
to fire and gas applications. These serve as a
direct interface between fire and gas
detectors and the Triguard SC300E,
incorporating auto-test and maintenance
functionality.

TriBuild is an easy to use, menu driven,
software package running under Windows
95/98 or Windows NT. It is used for the
creation of system configuration and
application control logic for the Triguard
SC300E safety controller.
TriBuild provides on and off-line functions
for configuration, programming,
documentation and testing. The programmer
can use either relay ladder-logic displays in
structured networks or boolean function
blocks. These can be developed
quickly and efficiently with the
assistance of 'search and replace'
and 'cut and paste' functionality.
Completed application control
programs can be loaded into a
Triguard SC300E system and the
execution of the control program
can be monitored on-line with the
TriBuild Engineering workstation.
TriCommand Operator
Workstation
TriCommand is a PC-based
operator workstation software
package. It provides real time
system control and monitoring
facilities. It operates as part of a Triguard
SC300E system in a single station
configuration or as multiple TriCommand
stations for distributed applications.
The workstations can be connected to
Triguard via peer-to-peer, single, or dual
serial communication links, networked via
single or dual redundant LANs.
Advant s Safeguard 400 s Series
Safeguard 400 Series safety controllers are
two of the main building blocks of ABB
Safety. They combine the features of highintegrity
programmable electronic systems
for safety applications with the
functionality and software architecture of
modern process control stations.
Safeguard 400 Series controllers are TÜV
approved, RC 1-6, (SIL 1-
3) programmable
controllers intended for
industrial safety
applications. They are
utilized for emergency
shutdown, process
safeguarding, fire & gas
monitoring, critical control
and equipment protection.
Safeguard 400 Series are an
integrated part of Advant
OCS (Open Control
System), and hold the
complete object database
for all detectors, sensors,
manual call points and
actuators. They also hold
the configuration database
for the integrated
addressable loop control
panels for fire and gas
alarms that ABB provides.
Safeguard 400 Series object databases offer
a standard data interface, which simplifies
application work regarding control logic,
operator functions and the graphical design
of displays.
Safeguard 400 Series application logic is
configured within a high-level function
block-programming environment called
AMPL.
For design and implementation of safety
control logic, Safeguard 400 Series, together
with AdvaBuild Safety Builder, offer a
unique environment for engineering and
implementation of cause and effect
Safeguard 400 Series are based on a single
or duplex architecture that utilizes refined
versions of standard controllers
from the ABB Advant OCS
product platform. The idea of
offering safety systems with high
safety integrity combined with a
generic ability to be easily
integrated into modern control
systems, is a core strategy in
ABB Safety product
development.
Safeguard 400 Series safety
controllers have two powerful
Motorola 68020 CPUs (25 MHz),
each with 8 MB RAM, and are
delivered in two standard
versions: Safeguard 410 is a
compact version with capacity
for approx. 400 inputs/outputs
(I/O). The extended version,
Safeguard 415, has a capacity for
approx. 1,400 I/O.
A single failure in the safety system will not
prevent a safety action from being
executed. Extensive diagnostic coverage is
implemented per control branch, and if a
failure is detected in one branch the other
will ensure continuous protection.

Since the Safeguard 400 Series controllers
are based on the Advant Controller 410,
they can be fully integrated into an existing
Advant OCS (Open Control System).
Using the same Advant workstations, the
same communications system, the same
user interface and related hardware,
Safeguard can function as an integral part
of the DCS, thereby contributing to an
improved flow of information, resulting in
fewer errors.
Operators and operational staff
work on a system that is uniform
both technically and
operationally. Operator stations
and printers can be dedicated to
safety functions, while operators
have quick and easy access to
information in other parts of the
system.
Advant OCS Integration
The integration of
control system and
safety system has
many benefits,
including improved
information handling
and a better instinctive
overview of the
facility
Safety specific software for Advant OCS
When safety and control systems are
integrated, the operation of the Advant
Controller 410 is transparent to the
operator. Only the application program and
system databases are visible, unless other
functions are explicitly accessed.
In the Advant Operator Workplace (UNIX
or NT based), the primary software
package is AdvaCommand. AdvaCommand
is a family of operator control and
interaction software, and provides
functions for presentation of information,
command entry, event and alarm handling,
system status etc.
The Advant Engineering Workplace
(UNIX or NT based) is the standard
engineering and configuration platform for
Advant OCS. The primary software
package is AdvaBuild, which covers all
features needed for configuration and
programming of the Advant OCS system,
throughout all phases of the project from
initial design to commissioning,
maintenance and upgrading.
The Advant Station 500 Information
Management Station is utilized for
processing of process data, statistics and
general information management.
AdvaInform is the software package
supplied with this model.
AdvaCommand Safeguard Handler
AdvaCommand Safeguard Handler is an
option to the AdvaCommand software, and
is required for the handling of Safeguard
400 Series products.
Safeguard Handler is essential because it
offers transparent duplication, allowing the
duplex-configured Safeguard 400 Series to
be operated as a single controller. The main
function of AdvaCommand Safeguard
Handler is the dual handling of the
operator interface.
AdvaBuild Safety Builder
AdvaBuild Safety Builder is an option to
the AdvaBuild software package. Designing
and documenting cause & effect matrices is
essential to industrial safety. A cause &
effect matrix is a presentation of the
relation between a set of process inputs
and the actions they trigger. The
configuration model used in AdvaBuild
Safety Builder saves manual work and
reduces possible errors in translating the
matrix to control logic.
AdvaInform Automatic
Shutdown Report
AdvaInform Automatic Shutdown Report
is an option that can be added to the
AdvaInform software package for
information management purposes.
Automatic Shutdown Report will document
the course of events, as well as the status of
all safety-related equipment, at every
process shutdown in a given setting.
Because this function is automatic, the
workload and effort put into regular safety
shutdowns can be significantly reduced. All
necessary safety data is accessible minute by
minute, day by day.
