THE RAINING OF NON-PERISHABLES
AT ST. PATRICK’S FOOD PANTRY
It was a dark and stormy night (I thought I would start this week’s “News and Views” with some
“Purple Prose” - here’s your chance to look it up and learn something). The local parish priest attempts
to get his forty winks early in the night when a rumpled maintenance man and his faithfully goateed
sidekick known as “the deacon” make such a ruckus in the house that they wake up the dog. Under normal
circumstances, the priest would call the local constable to flex his lawful muscles upon the intruders
but in this case, Jim Smith and Deacon Paul bring gifts to the parish, compliments of PANERA ANERA BREAD READ. READ
As part of Panera Bread’s service to our Food Pantry, Deacon
Paul and Jim Smith collect the same pastry donations
once a week late at night that Nancy Timm first collected
some time ago (and THANK YOU NANCY!!! for your service
to our parish!). Because of these donations, our ability to
serve the hungry of the parish is made a great deal easier,
as the amount of food can be portioned out much easier.
In addition, we also give great thanks to THE HE
BANK ANK
HE NORTHERN
ORTHERN ILLINOIS LLINOIS FOOD OOD
ANK who provide the same type of kind charity as Panera Bread also of-
fers us. In addition to providing us with perishable and non-perishable
food products for literally pennies a pound, the Food Bank often provides
crates of food to us at no cost, all for the sake of those in need. Both St. Patrick’s
Church and St. John the Baptist’s (which serves about 4 ½ times
more guests than we do) very much are in need of those services.
Over the last few months, we have been very blessed by parishioners and local institutions that have donated
so many items to our pantry that we have purchased (or have been given) a good number of institutional
freezers and refrigerators for storage. And as much as we fill those freezers and refrigerators
with perishable foods, we empty them very quickly due to the needs of our community.
Thus, we are seeking your help. Not only do we ask for your food and other charitable donations for
both our Pantry and St. Vincent de Paul Society, we also are asking you to keep your eyes and ears open
for any institutions you know that might be able to help our Pantry as well. If you or someone you know
are able to help in any manner, please contact the parish office so that we may speak to you. If you wish
to help our Pantry during the week, we also would welcome your phone calls.
I would like to thank, as always, Terry & Janet Muir who run our Pantry and keep up with this particular
ministry. God bless them and God bless all of you!
“THE KINGDOM
OF GOD IS AT
HAND” - MK 1: 15
THE 2012 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL AP-
PEAL begins with a mailing that many of our parishioners
have received or will soon receive.
This is a mailing from Bishop Conlon asking for
a pledge to the 2012 Catholic Ministries Annual
Appeal.
The Appeal not only funds many of the operations
of the diocese, it funds services that are of
great help to the ministries here in our parish.
For example, funds support ...
 Training & Formation for Seminarians
 Marriage and Annulment Programs
 Support for Youth Ministry
 Hispanic Ministry Programs
This year, the theme of the Appeal is “The Kingdom
of God is at Hand.” We are challenged as
Catholics to build up God’s kingdom here on
earth. Your contribution to the CMAA enables
the diocese to uphold the Gospel message and
build up the kingdom of God throughout the
seven- county area of the Joliet Diocese.
Please remember that God never forgets us. Even
when we believe that our successes are self
made, it is the blessings that God has given to
each of us that have helped us to get where we
are. God is always giving to us; his grace is always
there for us. One way that we can show
our gratitude is by offering our generous financial
support to our parish and to our diocese.
The gifts that we give enable ministries and services
that touch thousands of lives.
Our parish goal is $24,752 24,752. 24,752 With your support,
we can reach and exceed this goal. Please answer
Bishop Conlon’s request and make a generous
pledge. All pledges can be paid in ten
monthly installments. Thank you in advance for
your support.

29 Enero 2012: IV Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
WASHINGTON - Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan
of New York, president of the U.S. Conference
of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), sharply criticized
the decision by the Obama administration in
which it “ordered almost every employer and insurer
in the country to provide sterilization and contraceptives,
including some abortion-inducing
drugs, in their health plans.” He made the statement
in a web video posted at: http://bcove.me/
ob5itz9v.
“Never before has the federal government forced
individuals and organizations to go out into the
marketplace and buy a product that violates their
conscience. This shouldn’t happen in a land where
free exercise of religion ranks first in the Bill of
Rights,” Cardinal-designate Dolan said.
On January 20, Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the
Health and Human Services, announced that nonprofit
employers will have one year to comply with
the new rule.
Cardinal-designate Dolan urged Catholics and the
public at large to speak out in protest.
“Let your elected leaders know that you want
religious liberty and rights of conscience restored
and that you want the administration’s
contraceptive mandate rescinded,” he said.
corazones (Salmo 95 [94]).
Segunda Lectura - Hermanos y hermanas: Yo quisiera
que ustedes vivieran sin preocupaciones (1 Corintios
WASHINGTON – Designado-Cardinal Timoteo Dolan
