What Lasts In EducationWilliam H. AmosHoward E. C Schmolze (191M987)Senior Master, Registrar, College Counselor,Mathematics Teacher (1931-1975)We who have taught specific subjects, such asModern European History or Biology or Spanish, hope the experience will last a lifetime for everystudent who passes through our courses. Unfortunately,long-range retention of course materialoften is minimal. We are realistic enough toknow not everyone will become a linguist orscientist or historian, but the hope is that a few, just a few, will take up such professions. Andsome do, to our intense pleasure, but often weforget what else of a more lasting importancegoes on in a classroom.Howard Schmolze was a supreme example ofa man who transcended the subject matter hetaught. Those who went through his ElementaryAlgebra course—and almost every student whoever attended St. Andrew's did—struggled andfretted with what they thought at the time wasan insistence upon picayune form and detail. Asone alumnus wrote, "We were sure he wantedthe format to be uniform so it would be easierfor him to correct papers." But this same alumnusand many more who have written about outstandingfaculty (Howard Schmolze is alwaysincluded) later reached a far different conclusion, best expressed by another graduate who is todayeminent in a profession far removed from mathematics.A former Senior Prefect, now a professorof English, wrote, ". . .Mr. Schmolze. . .taught me how to think, even though preciouslittle of my thinking has ever been in the mathematicalline."Respectful fun used to be made of Howard'seccentricities, of his amusing expressions andmetaphors, of the candy sourball rewards hetossed to those who tried hard or who solved adifficult problem, of the dollar bills he foldedinto bow ties for those who achieved an 800 onthe College Boards. His humor was uninhibitedand often used to emphasize a point in class, perhaps in ditties he composed on the spot, afew of which were sung for weeks afterwardson the corridors. The sourball tradition was so powerfully ingrainedas an incentive device, one Christmas inthe early 1960's a boy gave Howard a handsomeapothecary jar with a brass top, filled with sourballs. It remained a fixture on his desk—its contentscontinually replenished—until the dayHoward retired in 1975.In all Howard's mathematics courses, studentswere obliged to analyze every problem, rewritingit in their own words as a demonstration ofclear understanding, then follow a precise andappropriate pattern in solving the problem. Gettingit right was always a triumph but not themain objective in this wise man's method.Alumni say repeatedly that when professionalquestions arise today, they are approached inthe disciplined fashion Howard taught, an analyticalmethod in logic that has allowed them togo far in their respective fields. An alumnus from the early 1960's, an internationalfinancial consultant, wrote, "Mr.Schmolze taught me a lesson I never forgot. InVth Form Advanced Math, to my delight andsurprise, I aced all the word problems, checkedall the answers and handed in my paper 10 minutesearly, so as to be able to beat it over tofootball practice and have my knee taped. Everyoneelse was still beavering away when he pickedup my paper, read it over, and announced tothe class, 'S forgot to list all the GI (GivenInformation), thereby losing 12 points. Everyoneremember to list all the GI!' I was engagedin a competitive world and knew that I waslucky to have gotten all the answers right onthis one, looking ahead to averages and such.To this day, I list all the GI in trying to solvealgebraic problems. He did me a great service."I remember a teacher once claiming that onlyin mathematics does one find "perfection,"something none of us chose to challenge sincethe concept resides only in the mind of one whobelieves it exists. Howard made no such pretense. He recognized human foibles well, andwhittled away at reducing sloppy and unchan-

neled thinking. Whether or not mathematicsreigned supreme in his personal world is oflittle consequence. Students who flourished athigher levels of mathematics at St. Andrew's orcollege did so, in large measure, not only becausethey had learned from him the essentialunderpinnings, but something far more valuable:how to think analytically at an early age, howto express themselves with precision, how topursue clearly defined goals, traits each developedin his own fashion after coaching by a demandingand kindly taskmaster. What countedto a present-day geologist "was the disciplinethat stuck with you."Howard had his sights set on greater thingsthan algebra for his students. Not once, to myknowledge, did he badger them to proceed inmathematics beyond either their ability or theirinclination. If they wanted to elect a MusicMajor instead, that was fine with him and herejoiced both in their interest and their success.Passing students in the halls, invariably hewould offer pleasant comments on their activities,or congratulate them on an artistic or athleticachievement. For those who have been gone from St.Andrew's many years, school days are rememberedwith Howard's familiar voice still echoingin the halls. His weekly Stamp Club meetingsattracted as many spectators as members. Mostof us recall Howard's familiar prologue to someSt. Andrew's anecdote, perhaps about the legendaryBob Banquo, "Hen, heh, heh, here's aquickie for you. .." then go on to tell a wonderfulstory in colorful detail.Howard and Kitty retired after the first yearof coeducation, but at least a few girls knewhim as a teacher. Last year Howard told meabout an underform girl Director of AdmissionsBill Cameron was reluctant to accept on thebasis of her mathematical aptitude scores.Howard worked hard to persuade him to admither, and she turned out to be the single mostrewarding student, boy or girl, he had in all hisyears of teaching. He taught her math duringtutorials throughout the year, but more than thathe showed her how to be a student—and a successfulone. Today she is the manager of a planningand analysis group, in no small measurethe product of Howard's keen intuitive sense ofan individual's potential. The girl's success is only one example thatemerges from the thousands of hours of special, often individual, attention Howard gave his students. His generosity and devotion to youngpeople were apparent throughout the School.Former Chaplain David Leech's lasting perceptionof the Schmolzes after almost thirty yearshits the mark, "Howard Schmolze and his wife,Kitty—those good people—Lord, they weregood people who gave so much."As College Counselor, Howard inspectedvarious universities and colleges, although fewmeasured up to his own beloved Trinity College. He was fair in his advice and assessments.More* than a few appreciative alumni rememberthe encouragement, as well as the help, heoffered at this difficult and indecisive time intheir lives. They recognize the wisdom he displayedin steering them toward their eventualdestinations. Pretensions played no role in hisadvice. The "right" college was what was rightfor the individual."Howard Schmolze was asupreme example of a manwho transcended the subjectmatter he taught... Hehad a profound and lastinginfluence upon two thousandlives—students, faculty andstaff."Howard's professional colleagues have endlessaffectionate and admiring memories of him andof Kitty who was his alter ego in the Registrar'sOffice. Those of us who had to get grades andreports in on time, who fought over "Reg-Off"desk space as we entered comments and numberson those long-vanished, one-of-a-kind mastergrade sheets that allowed no error, will neverforget his attention to detail and eagle eye whenspotting omissions or inconsistencies. His remindersof our blunders were gentle and to thepoint. As a spur to get things done on time, I havekept a typical personally-directed Schmolzoniannote, complete with drawing, posted above mydesk for over twenty-five years.Young faculty new to the teaching trade seldomneeded such prodding, for he was a consideratementor of their early efforts. Butteachers were not his only collegial beneficiaries. His friends among the staff knew they had achampion in Howard Schmolze. When questionsneeding a clear perspective arose, he was theone they sought for impartial advice.Constancy, dependability, an extraordinarymemory and, above all, loyalty were integralparts of Howard's makeup. Bob Moss recentlysaid, recalling his eighteen years of close associationwith the Schmolzes, "Howard and Kitty—the Team. Together they knew more about SAScontinued on page 10Bill Amos, Retired Senior Master and former Chairmanof the Science Department, is living in Vermontwhere for the last two years he has been at work ona continuing history of St. Andrew's School. Don and MaryDunn Retire40 Years of DedicatedServicePeople are far more complex than those whowrite about them can ever reveal. In our searchfor "essence," we oversimplify. No one ismore guilty of this tendency than I, especiallywhen I write about people who are retiring fromSt. Andrew's, as Don and Mary Dunn arepeopleabout whom I care a great deal. So, inadvance, I apologize to Don and Mary for failingto come close to capturing the nuanceswhich make them such interesting and uniqueindividuals. I hope I have captured the essenceof their generous contributions to our lives.Don and Mary Dunn are a team. It is hard tothink of one without the other popping into ourvision. How wonderful it is to find people whohave been married as long as they (a miracle initself today!) who also so obviously love, likeand respect one another. We see it every day asthey interact, supporting one another. The exampleof their marriage is one of their greatestgifts to us.We live in a rather permissive time. Schoolsare considerably more relaxed than they were20 years ago. On balance, I think the changeshave been for the better. On the other hand, there have been some losses as the tide ofreliability, punctuality, dependability, responsibility, etc., began to recede in the mid '60s.Fortunately, Don and Mary have been here toremind us of certain "standards" which we toooften neglect today.I wonder how many St. Andreans know thatMary Dunn volunteers to do more for the'School community than any other person. Withno fuss and no expectation of recognition, it isMary who gets things done—whether placingflowers on the Chapel altar or making sure astudent from a southern clime has a warmjacket to wear during cold weather. Joanie callsher "Mom." That's not a bad name for thiswoman who cares and does so very much forall St. Andreans. For a huge, burly guy who reminds one of across between Paul Bunyon and Chief SittingBull, Don is a notorious soft touch. During theearly years of coeducation, his advisees werealmost always girls. I questioned one of them asto why this was so. She smiled the most wickedsmile I have ever seen and confided in me thatany girl at St. Andrew's could get Mr. Dunn tobelieve almost anything good about her. As aresult, if she had to appear before the DisciplineCommittee, she was sure to have a very strongadvocate for her cause. This anecdote, whileobviously written with my tongue pressed hardto my cheek, is intended to illustrate a coupleof Don's finest attributes. He has believed inhis students and has always been ready to go tobat for them. The number of students he hasnursed through geometry with extra help sessionsis legion. We will miss Don and Mary Dunn. Theyhave been much more than a math teacher andthe librarian, though they have performed theseand their many other responsibilities well. Theyhave held up important standards for all of usto see at times when we have been tempted tomake "expedient" decisions. They have devotedtheir powerful, passionate personalities to thisSchool and the ideals which they feel are theessence of education. They have been and stillare unique—so different from the carbon copyyuppies which proliferate these days. We won'tforget them.Don and Mary will be moving to Rock Hall,Maryland, where they have owned a home formany years. We wish them well. We thankthem for all they have given us—far more thanthis School and all those they touched can everrepay—and we offer them all our love to sailwith on their beloved Chesapeake Bay. Life on the Delaware River With Docking PilotHickman Rowland '58—John LyonsKnock, knock, knock."John, are you up yet?"Yeah, just a second and I'll be right withyou, Carol. I won't survive this adventure withouta cup of coffee."It was incredibly early in the morning... orwas it late in the evening? Doesn't much matternow anyway. My eyeballs felt like lead, myhair stood straight up and the pillow creasesmapped out a slalom course on my right cheek. It was 3:30 a.m. It was an odd hour to be upand about. It was odder still to be floating justbelow the Delaware Memorial Bridge in a tugboat, coffee clenched in fist like some precious, irreplaceable possession.Four-thirty in the morning offers a strangeand interesting perspective on the world. Infinest Walter Mitty fashion, I envisioned myselfas easy prey for Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto onthe bridge of his flagship ready to do battle inthe Coral Sea in the spring of 1942.As the sun rose in the east over what waslater revealed to be southern New Jersey andnot the New Guinea coast, the haze between myears cleared and I realized I was not boardingthe bridge of a great Japanese warship but thebridge of a Japanese freighter. It was stuffed tothe gills not with war material either but CostaRican bananas, of all things. The date was notspring, 1942, but April 1987. In command wasindeed a Japanese seaman. More significantly, however, was the fact that St. Andrew'salumnus and trustee, Hickman "Hick" Rowland'58 was bringing the 490-foot vessel into thePort of Wilmington. It is an awesome sight in the predawn light tosee an enormous tanker or freighter plowing upthe Delaware River, headed for port. It is asight that members of the Rowland family havebeen witnessing off and on since 1776. HickRowland is a docking pilot; and his company,Wilmington Tug and Launch Co., provides shipsfrom all over the world with a safe end to theirjourneys. His job each and every day (and night)is to safely, swiftly and skillfully maneuverenormous ships—up to 1,000 feet in length—into

port. The captain of the ship will meet one ofthe Rowland family tugboats in the River, andHick scrambles aboard by rope ladder. Once onthe bridge, he assumes complete command of thevessel, easing it into port with a skill that is asmuch a result of family breeding as it is learned.Hick's life wasn't always this way. After St.Andrew's, he graduated with a B.S. from theUniversity of Pennsylvania in 1962. As it happened, upon graduation, he was lured to NewYork, where he began a successful career as aninvestment banker/stockbroker. Ultimately, however,he became disillusioned with the world ofhigh finance and the environs of New YorkCity. He sold everything he had, collected himselfand set sail for Australia to see a bit of theworld down under. It was there that he realizedhis calling might just be outdoors... on thewater. The opportunity lay in wait for him onthe Delaware River.Interestingly enough, Hick Rowland is not theonly pilot to have attended St. Andrew's. Otherriver pilots in the alumni body include Jud Bennett'62, Dick Buckaloo '63, John Hukill '50,George Maclntire '55 and Tom Robinson '51.For the past nine years, Hick has been dockingships and piloting barges in the Port of Wilmington,Delaware. When Alumni Bulletin EditorCarol Stegeman and I caught up with him onthat very early morning, he led two ships intoport. We struggled up rope ladders from therelative security of our tugboat to the exoticinterior of an international freighter—two landlubberstotally out of their element. It might aswell have been the surface of the moon. I mustcongratulate Carol on her nimbleness of foot asshe boarded, via a 20 foot wiggly rope ladder, the Nosac Tahara. The vessel was nothing morethan a 625-foot floating parking garage of Indianregistry. The ship was in Wilmington to load itsten levels with 5,000 American luxury cars—mostof them Cadillacs—where they would then bebound for the Persian Gulf stopping in ports suchas Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.Once in the narrow confines of the port, Hickhad to not only dock the ship but completelyturn it around so the stern would be facing upthe river. The ship's starboard side had to beadjacent to the loading area in order to extendits 40-ton ramp to the dock. He did the dockingprocedure entirely by sight and feel. Imagine a625-foot ship completely turning around in acanal about 650 feet wide. It is this type ofmaneuver that gives the neophyte dockingobserver a keen firsthand understanding ofHick's skill as a docking pilot. In addition toswinging the ship around, he also has to maintaina calm demeanor so as not to upset theIndian captain who is scrutinizing his everymove. The trick is to reassure the captain, keepthe ship from running aground and to stick to atight schedule that will have all arriving shipsdocked by 8:00 a.m., since dozens of waitinglongshoremen get paid $18 per hour regardlessof whether a ship is on time or not. Hick com-pletes his appointed task while never allowing asmile to slip from his face.Docking the Izumo Reefer—a 490-foot Japanesebanana freighter—after struggling with the float-Otfter river pilots in the alumnibody include ]ud Bennett '62,Dick Buckaloo '63, ]ofin Hukill'50, George Maclntire '55 andTom Robinson '51.ing Indian parking garage was, in Hick's words,"Like parallel parking a Volkswagon." After thesuccessful maneuver, the captain bowed his thanks, gave us tea and watched as his bananas wereunloaded, continuing their long journey to thetop of your cornflakes. It was like a scene from"On the Waterfront." The time was 7:59 a.m.A week later, while shopping at the ReadingTerminal Market in Philadelphia, I got a kickout of the fact that the bananas on display werefrom Costa Rica. Their journey to the top ofmy cornflakes was almost complete. Seventeen-year-old Youa Vang is a proud and responsiblenew father. His wife is even younger. In Hmong culture, young marriage is the norm, as there is no reason to delayadult responsibilities, and every reason to start a family assoon as you are able to. This custom makes it hard forHmong teenagers in the U. S. to finish high school if theypreserve this particular aspect of their culture. It also canproduce conflict between generations. In some cases, theyounger generation wants to delay marriage as long as possibleand the parents put pressure on them to keep to theold ways. While in other cases, it is the parents who wanttheir children to benefit from the educational opportunitiesin the new country and the children whp want a traditionallyyoung marriage. If other family members were unavailable to babysit, studentswere uneasy about entrusting their children to the campchildcare center and frequently broke school rules by bringingtheir children and babies to class. Culturally in the habitof having their children accompany them to their adult tasks, some parents resisted the Western idea of separating workfrom home life (in the form of a school rule requiring childrenover six months old not to accompany their parents toclass). This rule had the dual purpose of enhancing classroomefficiency as well as introducing students to Americanemployers' and teachers' workplace and classroom expectations.I was not always very good at playing enforcer and, consequently, occasionally found myself competing with awaller for airtime!iHmong hilltribe woman doing needlework. Geared to thenon-Hmong market, hilltribe women now produce quilts, wall hangings, aprons and pillow covers, as well as traditionalskirts, hats and baby carriers for their own families.Buying vegetables from a vendor in the camp. In a fewmonths, this family will be shopping in a supermarket.

For thenext year, I lived on the edge of a rice field ina small Thai town called Phanat Nikom. Asian ChildrenAs Gillian had the opportunity totravel to other areas in Thailand,Tibet, Nepal and China, she capturedthe universal expressions ofchildhood.mClockwise: Lowland Nepaligirl with rice and paintdecorating her forehead fora Hindu festival; Child fromUpper Pisan village inNepal, a 7-day walk fromthe nearest road; Karenhilltribe people in NorthernThailand; (far left) ' 'Hangin'out" in Bangkok. After working in Thailand for a year, I traveledwith various friends in several Asian countries:Japan, China, Tibet and Nepal. The highlightof these travels was a 25-day 150-mile trekaround the Annapurna massif in Nepal. Myfriend and I slept in villages along the way andate local food, which kept our packs down toabout 35-40 pounds. We started trekking at atropical 1500 feet and eventually crossed theThorung Pass at a perma-winter altitude of17,771 feet.10Schmolze continued from page 3than anyone I know. They were at the center ofall the action—and interaction—during my years. They developed the best "registrar's system" ofany school I have taught in or visited. The sheervolume of work they handled, and never mishandled,is incredible."As headmaster, Bob Moss relied heavily uponthe Schmolzes not only because they knew studentrecords by heart, but because, as Howardsaid last year, "The School's stream of lifeflowed back and forth by our door." Busy asthey were, they were aware of every nuance, ofevery difficulty and success.Howard Schmolze was entirely unique. At thesame time, he was the kind of person everyschool must have if it is to succeed. It is difficultto think of anyone who was more completelydevoted to the School, more knowledgeable, more even-handed in his approach to people andproblems. Howard was a gentle and courteousman. Above all, he was kind. He also wascourageous and, if need be, stubborn whendefending what he knew to be right for theSchool and for the individual. Debates withHoward were one-sided; invariably he wascorrect. He had a profound and lasting influence upontwo thousand lives—student, faculty and staff.Such a permanent effect, in the classroom andout, upon so many who remain in his debt makesHoward Schmolze one of the great teachers inSt. Andrew's history. The secret, to repeat thewords of an alumnus, is that "In his heart. . .heloved all of us." The love was returned. D

Form Projects Address Issues of Charity,Environmental Awareness & Human Rights—Tad Roach, Assistant to Headmaster for Student LifeOne of the more exciting developments of theSchool year has been the creation and successof new student activities called Form Projects.Begun in September, these projects have encouragedSt. Andrew's students to become involvedin issues relating to the environment, povertyand human rights. The Form Projects are a partof student life that we hope will continue todevelop over the next few years and become aSt. Andrew's tradition. The idea of asking each underform class toeducate itself and the community on crucialissues facing the world came about throughfaculty study of our Form representative system. We posed the question of how well our studentgovernment program helped us to pursue thefollowing goals outlined in the School's statementof purpose. We expect our students to share responsibilityfor life in a community foundedon Christian ethical principles andbeliefs... We seek to provide our studentswith experiences that will fosterpersonal growth and lead to increasedunderstanding of and respect for themselves, their neighbors and the world.Without question, students elected to positionson the Honor, Discipline, Student Life, andSocial Activities Committees gain valuable experiencesand enjoy considerable influence inlay areas of student life at St. Andrew's. Andthere are other organizations such as the Vestry, the Community Service Group, and the SADD(Students Against Drunk Driving) group wherestudents work together and gain valuable lessonsabout ''themselves, their neighbors and theworld." But for too many years, the function ofthe President, Vice-President, Secretary andTreasurer of each class has been limited to twoareas: student life concerns and fund raising foruse on class trips or other social occasions. What do student leaders learn from this experience? When we paused to ask this questionand thought of the energy and creativity of ourstudent body, we realized how narrow our perspectivehas been.We believe that student leaders should standin the forefront of the School's dedication to theservice of others. We asked this year's formofficer group to lead the School in the creationof Form Projects that would confront three fundamentalquestions assailing us all in the 1980's.(The faculty did not ask the VI Form to undertakea project because of the heavy contributionsthey make to the life of the School in theirmany positions of responsibility.)The III Form has been working on issues onthe environment. They have begun a Schoolwidealuminum can and newspaper recyclingprogram and have raised money for Save theChesapeake and for organizations protectingworld wildlife. The IV Form has studied andworked on the problem of poverty by sponsoringan African child and a child from the UnitedStates through the organization called Save theChildren. They have contributed to OXFAMAmerica and the Morris Youth Center in Wilmington(a facility which aids high schooldropouts). The IV Form also organized aThanksgiving canned goods drive supported bySt. Andrew's parents who visited the School onParents' Weekend. The V Form is concerned with the issue ofhuman rights. They have raised money forDelaware homeless people with the successfulTurkey Trot in November and sponsored a"Maui Wowie" to benefit the work of AmnestyInternational. It is hoped that these Form Projects will leadto the following goals:• a School community alert to and educatedabout critical issues facing humanity;• a student body in the habit of actively servingothers in need;• a form representative system whose leadersare challenged to be sensitive to the concernsof those in need and creative in theways they go about educating and motivatingthe community; and• graduates of St. Andrew's will continuetheir service work throughout their lives. The School community is pleased with theresults of the Form Projects and will look tocontinue to improve them in coming years. We welcome suggestions from the greaterSAS community. DWhen a local home wasdamaged by fire, studentvolunteers helped with thecleanup.11

She is looking forward to asummer tour of the United States followed byher return to the People's Republic of Chinanext fall. When asked what she will take homewith her from the SAS experience, Aili respondedthat she will take back a willingness todiscuss literature and history, and get activelyinvolved in class discussion, as she has beenencouraged to do at SAS. She has enjoyed theAmerican way of learning and feels good aboutthe way "students are forced to think." She admitsthat she has been surprised at the similaritiesshe has found in the ways Chinese andAmericans think about history. It has helped Ailitremendously in feeling at home because somany St. Andrew's students take such an interestin Chinese history (as she does in American). When asked what she will first tell her friendsupon her return to the East, Aili responded, "Iwill tell them about all the aspects of my lifehere, the boarding experience, everything fromfriends and classes to life in the dorm."Art Teacher Mark Green recently exhibited hiswork at Swarthmore College. Starting in the winterterm, Julieta offered aerobics as part of the SASintramural program. This high-power, one-hourworkout was such an instant success among students, faculty and staff that she continues tooffer aerobics each afternoon this spring on avolunteer basis. Known for her grueling routines

and shrieking "one more time," Julieta claimsthat she learned her skills while attending graduateschool at the University of Pennsylvania. She was pleasantly surprised at how easily shemade the transfer from follower to leader. Sheadds, "I am pleased that it became so popularwith the students." While she was initially uncertainof how the boys might respond, shefound that "many of those who thought it wouldbe easy were both surprised and challenged."That is an understatement. It was a good year for visiting speakers at St.Andrew's. In January, Dr. Olin Robison, Presidentof Middlebury College and internationallyrenowned expert on Russia, addressed theSchool on Soviet-American relations. Additional bonus points were awardedaccording to how much the height of the structureexceeded nine inches. The team was alsorequired to present a mime skit of their owndesign. The theme of the skit was to create asetting in which the need for their balsa woodstructure was evident.Throughout the winter term, the team builtand tested eight different structures. At theend of the winter term, the team gave a demonstrationto the School community. Those inattendance that night will not forget the sight ofseveral hundred pounds being supported byseveral fragile sticks strategically glued together.A third component of the competition involvedthe participation in a spontaneous problemsolvingsession. Since then, the "undeclared" warin Central America has continued to escalate, and therecent "Iran-Contra" scandal has begun to uncoverthe illegal activities of the Reagan administration.Carey joins me and thousands of other Americansand people from all over the world who have gone toNicaragua to see for themselves and to work to showtheir support for the Nicaraguan people. It was refreshingto read his article. Thanks for running it.—Lory Peck '68TO ALL WHO SENT MATERIAL INRECENT MONTHS FOR THE NEWSAS HISTORY:Since last fall I have been preoccupied with the actualpreparation of the new St. Andrew's history—the1950's to the 1980's—regrettably allowing correspondenceto suffer an almost complete collapse. Thosewho sent their thoughts by letter or tape during thisperiod should know I find them enormously importantand useful. In months ahead I want to reply but firstof all must devote myself to the project and to itscompletion.—Bill Amos18
