Student NotesNOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED• A specific outcome to increase community confidence – this willinvolve the delivery of a more effective, transparent <strong>and</strong> responsiveCriminal Justice System for victims <strong>and</strong> the public• The need to reflect the increased threat to communities posed byviolent extremists – efforts to frustrate those who seek to disrupt thegeneral health <strong>and</strong> safety of our citizens.How do these Key Priorities affect you?It is theresponsibilityof everyofficer towork towardsthemUntil 2012, each force has its own Local Policing Plan which was tailored toits specific needs, as required by section 6ZB of the <strong>Police</strong> Act 1996.However, Section 6ZB was repealed <strong>and</strong> Local Policing Plans were replacedby a <strong>Police</strong> <strong>and</strong> Crime Plan written by the <strong>Police</strong> <strong>and</strong> Crime Commissioners(PCCs), as per the requirements of Section 5 to 8 of the <strong>Police</strong> Reform <strong>and</strong>Social Responsibility Act 2011.Whilst it may seem that these key priorities are only of concern to seniorofficers that is most definitely not the case.It is the responsibility of every individual officer to work towards theseobjectives. As an officer on patrol you will be expected to bear them inmind <strong>and</strong> be proactive.You will take part in many initiatives which will target problems such asknife crime (referred to above) in the Basic Comm<strong>and</strong> Unit (BCU). As youprogress in your career you will be asked to organise <strong>and</strong> carry out specialoperations, targeting this type of social problem.Strategic Policing RequirementThe Home Secretary has issued the strategic policing requirement (SPR).This replaces the non-statutory shadow SPR the Home Secretary issued inNovember 2011.Section 77 of the <strong>Police</strong> Reform <strong>and</strong> Social Responsibility Act 2011 requiresthe Home Secretary to issue a strategic policing requirement. <strong>Police</strong> <strong>and</strong>crime commissioners <strong>and</strong> chief constables will be required to have regard toIND01(AS)_<strong>Ethics</strong><strong>and</strong>Values_SNVersion 1.01 NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED Page 12 of 82© College of Policing Limited 2013
