The chain <strong>of</strong> command is vitaland open coordin<strong>at</strong>ion and communic<strong>at</strong>ion within this chain is essential.Medical Coverage Chain <strong>of</strong> Command:The <strong>at</strong>hletic training staff will always act as primary care givers <strong>at</strong> the site <strong>of</strong> injuryor accident (when on-site) and would manage the situ<strong>at</strong>ion according to thefollowing rank:1. Team Physician2. Head Athletic Trainer3. Assistant Athletic TrainerIn the event th<strong>at</strong> a certified <strong>at</strong>hletic trainer is not on-site <strong>at</strong> the time <strong>of</strong> injury thefollowing chain <strong>of</strong> command would be used:1. Head Coach2. Assistant Coach3. Gradu<strong>at</strong>e Assistant Coach4. Student Manager5. Fellow Student-AthleteThe welfare <strong>of</strong> the injured <strong>at</strong>hlete is always first and foremost, therefore immedi<strong>at</strong>ecare in some form is vital and by no means should care wait to be undertaken untila certified <strong>at</strong>hletic trainer arrives on the scene. Proceed as judgment dict<strong>at</strong>es untilhelp arrives.If a severe medical emergency occurs while a certified <strong>at</strong>hletic trainer is notpresent, immedi<strong>at</strong>ely call 911 to activ<strong>at</strong>e the emergency medical system, and thencall the head <strong>at</strong>hletic trainer to notify him <strong>of</strong> the situ<strong>at</strong>ion.
