David Samuel, Gahanna City Council President, installed the 2011 Chamber Board of Directors. The Chamber was pleased to host 85 members at its Annual Membership Meeting & Installation Luncheon held Thursday, January 13, at Creekside Conference & Event Center. Chamber Chairman, Ron Wolfinger, Pre-Paid Legal Services, delivered a power point on the “State of the Chamber” and Dave Samuels, City Council President, administered the oath of office to chamber Officers and Directors for 2011. The program featured keynote speaker Linda Brincks, President of Laurus Leadership Development a certified Core Clarity facilitator and a strong proponent of strengths-based leadership. Linda showed us how being successful in our business roles is very similar to being a successful athlete. “Studies show that athletes who perform at their peak levels day in and day out have developed a rhythm between energy expenditure (stress) and energy renewal (recovery),” Linda noted. “We can translate that into the business setting by scheduling technology “time-outs” (shut down all technology) and developing rituals to check our attitudes and emotions, like stopping and asking ourselves every 90 minutes: What am I saying? What am I thinking? What am I doing? What am I feeling? What do I need to do to improve my attitude?” She also highlighted how multitasking has been shown to decrease productivity by 20-40%, so plan your weekly calendar with 60-90 blocks of time to work on related projects and tasks instead of bouncing from one seemingly urgent task to another. 2010 Small Business Award Winner: SOH Productions Pictured: Debby Vedder, Roxanne Nally, Ron Smith, John Buckles, Nancy Smith, and Jane Smith, all of SOH Productions. Implementation for cost reductions varied but included 2 new discount programs, discounts on group rated health insurance and the workers’ compensation program. Membership has declined slightly from 437 to 432 and the retention rate averaged 83%. National Bicycle League GSX Will Manage All Operational and Promotional Elements of the World Cup Series GAHANNA, OH (December 16, 2010) — Global SX Events, Inc., (GSX) announced today that it has signed an agreement to partner with the UCI to manage the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, the world’s leading BMX racing series, serves as the main qualification event for the 2012 Olympic Games. Introduced by the UCI in 2003, this series of races has revitalized BMX with its exciting and spectacular Supercross format. Gary Aragon, Chairman and President of GSX Events, says, “The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series is currently the leading international BMX event. But as the sport grows, the series will need to grow with it. GSX Events is committed to continually develop and advance the sport of BMX racing the world over. Our goal is to partner with the UCI to take the sport through this next phase of growth.” NBL BMX Racing Action Took Place at Convention Center between Christmas and New Year’s GAHANNA, OH. (Dec. 22, 2010) — The City of Columbus hosted more than 2000 BMXers and their families as they converged on the grounds of the Columbus Convention Center for the annual NBL Christmas Classic and President’s Cup. The three-day long Christmas week event took place at the Convention Center December 27-29, 2010. The event kicked off with the President’s Cup. The State vs. State event had the biggest turnout in over ten years. After a long day of racing, perennial champion Florida took home the title again. The showcase event, the NBL Christmas Classic, took the stage on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 28-29, and featured full-blown National Amateur racing and Elite racing for the top Pro riders. In addition to bar-banging action on the indoor track, bike shops, sponsors and other vendors were set up adjacent to the track. Entry to both events was free to the public.
