<strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Day</strong> <strong>Camp</strong><strong>Information</strong> <strong>Package</strong>Where is <strong>Camp</strong> located?<strong>Camp</strong> takes place in the <strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> and theadjacent parklands. Each group of campers is given aspace (lab, classroom or workshop) that serves as ahome base for the week.How will my camper spend his/ her<strong>Camp</strong> day?Time is spent exploring exhibit halls, doing hands-onactivities and playing outdoors during the lunch break(weather permitting). Your camper will see a differentIMAX ® Film each week: For Space Craze theme weeks,campers will see “Born to Be Wild”; and on Spying on<strong>Science</strong> theme weeks, campers will see “Flight of theButterflies”.What are the <strong>Camp</strong>’s drop-off andpick-up times?Regular drop-off time is between 8:45 am and 9:00 am.Regular pick-up time is between 4:00 pm and 4:15 pm.On Monday, please arrive by 8:45 am or earlier if youhave questions about your camper, placement, lunch oryou need to talk to our First Aid provider. Pleaseremember to bring the group name label that youwill receive in a separate mailing.Extended Care:In order to make use of Morning and/ or AfternoonExtended Care, you must pre-register and pre-pay.The $60 fee is non-refundable.• Morning Extended Care begins at 7:30 am.(<strong>Camp</strong>ers cannot be signed-in before this time.)• Afternoon Extended Care begins at 4:15 pm andends at 6:00 pm.A surcharge may apply if a camper is picked up after6:00 pm (at the manager’s discretion).What are the <strong>Camp</strong>’s sign-in andsign-out procedures?You must sign-in your child(ren) in the morning and signthem out again in the afternoon with their counsellor.Photo ID must be presented each day before yourcamper can be released from our care.Please note that the name on the ID must match thename provided in the section “Person(s) Authorized toPick Up” on your camper’s registration.Where should I park?You must park in the South Parking Lot and enter the<strong>Centre</strong> through the IBM School and Tour GroupEntrance before 9:00 am. In the event the SouthParking Lot is full and/ or after 9:00 am, you will bedirected to the North Parking Lot and into the <strong>Centre</strong> by<strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> staff.Parking for camper drop-off is free of charge before9:00 am and for pick-up after 3:30 pm.Can my camper be dropped off lateand/ or picked up early?If your camper is going to arrive after 9:00 am or leavebefore 4:00 pm, please contact the <strong>Camp</strong> Officeat 416-696-3256 orRecreationalPrograms@<strong>Ontario</strong><strong>Science</strong><strong>Centre</strong>.ca.Early pick-ups and late drop-offs take place at the <strong>Camp</strong>Office located at the North end of the Lobby.We kindly request that late arrivals and early pickupsnot take place between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm,and/ or between 3:30 and 4:00 pm, due to busy lunchtime activities and end of day preparations. <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Day</strong> <strong>Camp</strong><strong>Information</strong> <strong>Package</strong>What are the cancellation and refundpolicies?No refunds will be given for cancellations afterFriday, June 14, 2013.Cancellations prior to Friday, June 14, 2013, and allmodifications, are subject to a $60 fee.No refunds will be given for <strong>Camp</strong> days that a camper isabsent and missed days cannot be made up. A refunddue to medical reasons may be considered if a writtenrequest is received within the <strong>Camp</strong> week and isaccompanied by a doctor’s note.Please note that the <strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> reservesthe right to terminate the registration of any camper if, inthe opinion of the manager, it is in the best interest of thecamper and/ or <strong>Camp</strong>. If the <strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong>terminates a camper’s registration, a refund will beconsidered.How do I change my contactinformation?To make changes to your contact information, beforeand during <strong>Camp</strong>, please contact our <strong>Camp</strong> Office withyour confirmation number at: 416-696-3256. They must alsowear their <strong>Camp</strong> T-shirt, every day while at <strong>Camp</strong>. <strong>Camp</strong>T-shirts are handed out on Monday morning each week.For health and safety reasons, open-toe shoes, rollershoes and Crocs are not recommended at <strong>Camp</strong>.Every Friday throughout the summer, campers,volunteers and staff will be invited to dress-up accordingto a special theme for our “<strong>Camp</strong> Spirit Fridays”. Moreinformation about specific themes will be provided duringeach week of <strong>Camp</strong>.Are any special materials needed at<strong>Camp</strong>?Spying on <strong>Science</strong> campers are asked to bring 3 emptytoilet paper rolls or 1 empty paper towel rolls and oneempty 500 litre plastic water bottle. Space Crazecampers do not need to bring any special materials tocamp.What should my camper bring to<strong>Camp</strong>?Your camper’s backpack should contain the followingitems:1. A water bottle2. A hat3. Sunscreen4. A sweater/ sweatshirt5. Insect repellent (to be self-applied)6. Two snacks and three drinks7. Lunch (if not ordering a hot and healthy lunchthrough Compass Group Canada)Belongings must be labeled clearly with the camper’s fullname. They will be stored in the camper’s home baseduring the day.<strong>Camp</strong>ers should refrain from bringing personal itemssuch as iPods, MP3 players, electronic games, cellularphones, toys or sport equipment to <strong>Camp</strong>. There are nolockers available for storage and the <strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong><strong>Centre</strong> cannot be held responsible for lost or damagedgoods.Please do not send money with your camper as therewill be no opportunity for them to visit the vendingmachines, restaurant or gift shop while at <strong>Camp</strong>.What happens to lost items?Any lost items will be placed in the <strong>Camp</strong>’s lostand found, located in the <strong>Camp</strong> Office. Any unclaimeditems will be taken to the <strong>Centre</strong>’s main lost and foundwhich can be reached by calling 416-696-1000.What will my camper eat at <strong>Camp</strong>?<strong>Camp</strong>ers should bring two snacks, three drinks, and apacked lunch with them each day. <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Day</strong> <strong>Camp</strong><strong>Information</strong> <strong>Package</strong>What about camper care?Since camper safety and supervision is of the utmostimportance, a ratio of 1 staff to 10 campers is maintainedfor 5 and 6 year-olds and a ratio of 1 staff to 15 campersfor 7 to 12 year-olds. <strong>Camp</strong> programs are delivered byresponsible, enthusiastic and caring counsellors with abroad range of expertise and experience working withchildren in an educational and/ or recreationalenvironment. Our diverse staff includes teachers,science educators and university and high school levelstudents with a science or education-relatedbackground.Youth volunteers provide additional assistance with thesupervision and care of our campers. Our volunteers arewell screened and trained, and supervised by <strong>Camp</strong> staffat all times.Our “No-touch” and “Rule of Three” policies help ensurecamper safety and are strictly enforced. Please see the<strong>Camp</strong> Manager or First Aid Provider for moreinformation on these and other Health and Safetypolicies.What about health and safety?All members of the <strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong>’s protectiveservices staff, as well as <strong>Camp</strong> staff, are trained in FirstAid and CPR. In addition, the <strong>Camp</strong> First Aid providerwill assist ill campers and ensure that health and safetystandards are maintained.The First Aid provider can be reached by phone at 416-688-6916 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday throughFriday. She will also be available in person at the <strong>Camp</strong>entrance, between 8:00 and 9:00 am on Mondaymornings.<strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> staff, including the First Aidprovider, cannot administer medication to campers. Ifyour camper must take medication during his/ her <strong>Camp</strong>day, please see the First Aid provider and/ or yourcamper’s counsellor to discuss options. While we will doour best to remind campers of their medications, wecannot guarantee this.After-Bite or similar sting itch relief product may beadministered if necessary.For the health and safety of your child(ren) and becausecampers’ activities take place throughout the <strong>Ontario</strong><strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong>, we recommend that you encourageyour camper(s) with Epipens ® to carry them at all timeswhile at <strong>Camp</strong>.What if my camper has specialneeds?The <strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> recognizes the individualneeds of campers. If you indicated your camper’s specialneed(s) or medical information on his/ her Medical /Special Needs form, we may be in touch with you priorto your <strong>Camp</strong> week for more information.We regret that we cannot provide one-on-onesupervision or specific medical support, but supportpersons/ attendants/ caregivers can accompany acamper with special needs free of charge as needed.How is my camper expected tobehave at <strong>Camp</strong>?In order for all to enjoy their <strong>Camp</strong> experience, it isexpected that campers will respect each other, theircounsellors, supervisors and their environment while at<strong>Camp</strong>. It is also expected that no camper will exhibitbehaviour that is harmful to himself/ herselfor anyone else.If a camper behaves in an unsuitable/ unsafe manner,his/ her parents/ guardians will be notified. If it becomesnecessary to remove the camper, a refund will beconsidered.Can visitors access <strong>Camp</strong> roomsand/ or join in <strong>Camp</strong> activities?<strong>Ontario</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> visitors or camper parents/guardians are not permitted to enter <strong>Camp</strong> rooms or tojoin in <strong>Camp</strong> activities.
