Thanks to theirunique design (pressure balanced double screen design perpiston) Erema partial area backflush systems function extremelywell with a wide range of filtering requirements. The characteristics of Erema partial area backflush systemscan be summarised as follows:● Minimise influence on downstream processes thanksto lowest pressure fluctuations during backflushing andscreen changing (RTF 4 and RTF 8).● Efficient, reliable backflushing mechanism (optionallyin VC-configuration) with very short backflush channels. This dramatically increases screen service life and keepsbackflushing material losses to a minimum.● Back purging is triggered completely automatically, reducing operator requirement.Partial surface backflushing technology involves flushing acomparatively small area of the screen surface in relation tothe total active screen area by passing a central stream ofclean melt through from the back of the screen. High velocityis possible at the screen due to the small surface area ofscreen to be flushed (in particular with VC-configuration) ata time, resulting in optimum cleaning efficiency. It is alsopossible to adjust the backflushing stream, using a replaceablethrottle nozzle on the clean side of the filter (preventing riskof clogging with contamination!), adapting the system toindividual requirements. The large total screen area thatremains active even during backflushing and screen changingand the correct match of throttle nozzle enable this systemto be implemented even with sensitive downstream processes.Erema Laser filterProductionScreen cleaning(backflushing) during operationEREMA RTF-2:Semi-continuous partial area backflush filter with2 screens for lightly-contaminated polymers(basic layout)ProductionScreen cleaning(backflushing) during operationEREMA RTF-4:Fully-continuous partial area backflush filter with4 screens for medium contaminated polymers andlow pressure differences (basic layout)ProductionScreen cleaning(backflushing) during operationEREMA RTF-8:Fully-continuous partial area backflush filter with8 screens for heavily-contaminated polymers and/orultra-low pressure differences (basic layout)Constant pressure, self-cleaning, high-capacity filter forextremely heavily contaminated polymer melts (see separatebrochure).Screen discsScraperScraper discMelt inlet(basic layout)Liquid coolingImpurity dischargeImpurity dischargeDischarge screwsClean melt outletScraper movement

Applications for Erema filter systems● Discontinuous filtrationDiscontinuous melt filters which interrupt the melt stream during screen changes are mainly used for applicationswith a low level of contamination. These systems are suitable for extruders that are easy to start up after each screenchange, or where regular short interruptions to production are necessary anyway (e.g. for pellitiser knife changes)and long screen changing intervals are normal.● Continuous filtration with partial area backflushing technologyContinuous Erema filter systems with fully automatic partial area backflushing are recommended for applications withhigher levels of contamination or complicated start-up procedures. The fully-automatic cleaning mechanism greatlyreduces operator involvement and prevents downtime and time consuming start-ups. They also boost cost-effectivenessby allowing higher proportions of recycled material to be processed without compromising the quality of the finalproduct. An additional advantage is the comparatively large active area of the Erema RTF-type filters which can evenprevent peaks in contamination from interrupting the process. Due to the gentle filtration with low viscosities andconsequently low shearing of the melt at the screens, resulting from the large total active screen area of the EremaRTF-filters, also gels (depending on application), besides solid contamination, can be held back.Which filter system for which application?ensured(pressure constant)Continuousribbon filterScreen discScreen discwithbackflushLaserfilterSeparatorheads100%Pressure constant productionnot ensured(considerable pressure fluctuations)lowPivot discsingle pistonscreenchangerslide platescreenchangerdual pistonscreenchangerdual pistonscreenchanger withbackflushRTF-2...RTF-4 ...Degree of contamination of filtrated meltRTF-8 ...Discontinuousribbon filterhigh50%(Virgin)(Post consumer)The diagram shows schematically applications for different conventional filter systems being available on themarket with reference to the two main parameters process constancy (system ability to maintain pressureconstant filtration) and filtration capacity of system (capability to deal with contamination in the melt).HIGH TECH RECYCLING

Optionaltechnologies ...... for optimising thecost-effectiveness ofErema backflush screenchanger systemsErema backflush filter with "VC"(Valve Controlled) technology. The new Erema technology for adrastic reduction of melt lossesduring back-flushing.Available as an option, the latestdevelopments to proven Erema RTFsystems feature a modification thatdramatically reduces melt lossesduring backflushing. This has beenmade possible by an extremeshortening of the backflushing ways(channels and cavities) plus usingnew technologies to clean only afraction of a screen at a time, whenapplying backflushing. This results ina previously unattainable levelof screen cleaning and extraordinarysmall, economical usage of meltneeded to backflush a screen. Detailsavailable on request. These new technologies areespecially useful in the filtration ofheavily contaminated melts, allowingup to tens of thousands of euros inreduced melt losses to be savedevery year.Erema support platesThe optional 4 mm thin supportplates are extremely robust and, bysupplying a larger open screen area, enable better utilisation of the activescreen surface. Especially whenfiltering low viscosity melts (e.g. PETand PA), they reduce the filter backpressure by an average of 10% andincrease the service life of the screenset. These can easily be retrofitted toErema RTF screen changers, incombination with modified supportbreaker plates, to optimise existingfilter systems.Active total filter screen surface EremaRTF backflush screen changer-seriesScreen diameter (mm) 82 mm 104 mm 134 mm 170 mm 250 mmFilter system with .../ total active screen area in cm 21 carrier piston (2 screens)170 cm 2 282 cm 2SW 2/104 RTFSW 2/134 RTFSW 2/170 RTF454 cm 2SW 2/250 RTF982 cm 22 carrier pistons (4 screens)SW 4/82 RTF211 cm 2SW 4/104 RTF340 cm 2SW 4/134 RTFSW 4/170 RTF564 cm 2907 cm 2SW 4/250 RTF4 carrier pistons (8 screens)1963 cm 2SW 8/104 RTFSW 8/134 RTFSW 8/170 RTFSW 8/250 RTFLaser filter type LF 2/350Total filter surface (cm 2 ) 1470No. of heating zones 5Heating rating (kW) 18Motor rating (kW) 3,0Scraper disk speed (rpm) 1-8Max. operating pressure (bar) 350Throughput capacity (kg/h) 250-1200(see separate brochure)680 cm 21128 cm 2Technical data Erema Laser filter1814 cm 23926 cm 2Erema-„Support-Plates”HIGH TECH RECYCLING
