Spring/Summer 2011In addition, all students, regardless of age, must sign and return theMeningitis Response Form available at www.sunyorange.edu/admissions ,in this brochure, or in the Health Services Office.Immunization Forms must be on file in the Health Services Office prior toregistration.For questions related to immunization requirements and acceptable documentationcontact the Health Services Office at (845) 341-4870.Make-Up of Classes Cancelled due to InclementWeather<strong>Evening</strong> classes canceled due to inclement weather will be rescheduled.Students will be advised by the instructor of the time and day of these sessions.Generally, a make-up session is held on the Friday evening of thenext week.Maximum Credit LoadIn general, students may schedule their classes in the day or evening,or both, in accordance with their particular needs. To register for 20 ormore credits in a semester, or 9 or more credits in a summer session, thepermission of the appropriate Associate Vice President is required. Twelveor more credits in a semester constitutes a full-time course load; one-halfcredit to 11.5 credits is designated as part-time study.PaymentEvery Student must submit payment, a signed Student Bill with paymentmethod indicated, and proof of legal residence. For payment dates pleaserefer to the Registration schedule on page 4. For tuition, fees, and refundschedule please refer to the schedules on page 7.Payment options include cash (Middletown only), money order, check, orcredit card: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover card, finalizedfinancial aid, third-party contracts, or the TuitionPay Plan. For yourconvenience, payment by credit card or ACH may also be made on-lineat www.sunyorange.edu/bursar. Select Payment Options-Make On-LinePayment Now and follow the instructions for submitting payment. A$10.00 convenience fee is charged. Please note: the Bursar does not acceptcredit card payments by telephone.The TuitionPay Payment Plan enables students to pay their tuition andfees in monthly installments. A completed enrollment form, $35.00 enrollmentfee, and the payment due are all required to join the TuitionPay Plan.For plan enrollment dates please refer to Payment Options on page 5.To qualify for NY resident tuition rates a student must have maintained alegal residence in NY State for one year and in the county for six monthsimmediately preceding the first day of the semester. All NY State residents,who do not complete the residence requirement, will be charged as a nonresident.Proof of residence must be submitted annually.Students, who register for classes but who fail to complete the payment processor attend classes, will incur a tuition liability if they do not withdraw (by completinga Drop form) before the start date of the semester.PrerequisitesA prerequisite course is one that prepares a student for advanced coursesin an academic field. Prerequisites may be waived or substituted at the discretionof the appropriate department chair. A signed waiver form must befiled with the Records and Registration Office.Note: Course prerequisites are listed in the course catalog and sometimesas a special notation listed with a course in this bulletin. A student withoutthe appropriate prerequisite or waiver can be withdrawn from the course bythe instructor.Repeating a CourseA repeated course is automatically identified by the computer system. Thegrade and credits earned in the final attempt are calculated in the student’sacademic average. All grades remain on the academic record. Students whoreceive financial aid should check with the Financial Aid Office before repeatinga course in which a D or better grade was earned. Note: Students in HealthProfession programs who wish to repeat a professional course must receiveapproval from the department chair and file a special permission card with theadvisor.Stop/HoldsStudents who have unmet financial obligations to the College or whohave failed to comply with college requirements, such as proof of immunization,will not be permitted to register, receive or send transcripts, orprovide proof of enrollment to other agencies/institutions until the stop/holdis cleared with the issuing office. In addition, all information relating tostudent records will be withheld in accordance with the Family EducationalRights and Privacy Act.Student ID and Parking PermitAfter registering students should bring their course schedule to have their phototaken for a student ID or students can update their student ID or campus parking permitby presenting their paid receipt at the Student Activities Office, which is located onthe 1st floor of the Shepard Student Center at the Middletown Campus and in Room223 or 1st floor Security desk in the Tower Building at the Newburgh Campus.Visiting Student<strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Orange</strong> welcomes students from other colleges and universities whowish to enroll in credit courses for the Summer term. Visiting students hoping totransfer credits to their home institution should seek approval from their homeinstitution prior to registering. Visiting students who need help with their courseselection should call or visit the Advising and Counseling Center.Withdrawal fromNon-Developmental CoursesDuring the semester, a student may withdraw from a course by completinga withdrawal (drop) form that is available at the Records and RegistrationOffice with an advisor’s signature. No record of the course appears on thestudent’s transcript if the course is dropped by specific dates (See AcademicCalendar). Thereafter, a grade of “W” is recorded. From these dates forward,the student would need to do an Official Withdrawal by the appropriatedeadlines (see Official Withdrawal from College section) or the instructormay initiate an Instructor Withdrawal. An instructor is not required todo an Instructor Withdrawal.Withdrawals are processed by the Records and Registration Office as ofthe day of receipt. Please keep this in mind since refunds are generatedfrom the processing date.Withdrawal from Developmental CoursesStudents who are required to enroll in developmental courses must remainenrolled in them throughout the semester. A student may request permissionto withdraw and must acquire signature approval from the appropriateadministrator (Associate Vice President, Coordinator of Learning AssistanceServices or the Registrar) their Advisor and the Instructor in order to drop thecourse(s). Absence from class is not a sufficient reason when seeking permissionto withdraw from a required developmental course. Students who are notrequired to enroll in developmental courses and choose to do so may withdrawwith the signature of an Advisor. (See catalog for Learning AssistanceServices/Developmental Education)Official Withdrawal from the CollegeA student may withdraw from the College and from all current semestercourses, including developmental, if he or she does so by the deadlinebelow. The student should discuss the decision with his or her advisor priorto withdrawal.The student must complete the Total Withdrawal from College Form andthe Drop/Add Form with appropriate signatures by the dates noted on theAcademic Calendar. Exit interviews with Counseling Center staff membersare required for all admitted (matriculated) students. Students who receiveany form of financial aid are required to obtain a financial aid officer’s signature.Non-Degree seeking students should complete and file the forms withRecords and Registration.Withdrawal and Financial Aid AwardsStudents who receive financial aid should check with the Financial AidOffice since withdrawal from either a single course or from all courses mayaffect current or future aid.85
