Telephonics Communication Systems DivisionMaritime Surveillance AircraftDigital Intercom SystemAdvanced Communication ManagementFully digital replacementintercom formaritime surveillanceaircraft – totalengineered replacementsolution.Telephonics now offers atotal replacement solutionfor Maritime SurveillanceAircraft (MSA) intercommunicationsystems with itsSDI advanced digital intercommunicationsystem. TheTelephonics SDI is an alldigital intercom that providesexcellent audio quality, highreliability, reduced systemweight and is highly affordable.SDI is the best solution to areplacement for the oldanalog intercom aboard MSAplatforms is Telephonics latestdigital intercom, the SDI.Customers all over the worldhave chosen SDI as a newor replacement intercom fora wide variety of militaryplatforms. SDI has provenitself to be an economical, reliable, easy to use systemfor aircraft communicationsmanagement.A Modern DigitalIntercomSDI provides full digitalaudio and digital control forcommunications and audiomanagement. This designeliminates the interferencenoise found in older analogsystems, and reduceswiring, weight and complexity. The system allows significantlygreater functionalityand flexibility than older systems, providing the user orintegrator the means to providea custom solution to areplacement intercom requirement.www.telephonics.com

Maritime Surveillance Aircraft Intercom SystemCustomers andProgramsSystem ArchitectureThe SDI system consists oftwo major assemblies: theInterface Control Unit (ICU)to which all the radios, audioinputs, warnings and aircraftinterfaces are connected;and the Control Audio Panel(CAP), the operator controlpanel used to select audiosources and system functions.Depending upon the numberof operators and audiosources, more than one ICUmay be used in an aircraftsystem. Each ICU can interconnectup to 8 operators.Typically, the system usestwo ICUs to accommodate acrew of 12 operators. TheICU performs the routingand distribution of audiobetween crew members andthe platform systems. TheICU contains an imbeddedprocessor and provision forplug-in modules for specialfunctions and aircraft systeminterfaces. In addition to anoperational flight program, the ICU contains a programmableCommunicationPlan that allows the integratorto specify the functionalityof each operator control interms of communicationaccess.SDI – Secure Digital Intercommunications

Technical FeaturesOperator ControlsThe typical MSA uses twotypes of operator controlpanels. The EXCAP, orexpanded control audiopanel, is used by the flightdeck and full access missioncrew for total communicationmanagement and rapid single-buttonfunctions.EXCAP – Flight DeckThe LPCAP, or low profilecontrol audio panel, is usedby other crew positions foraccess to audio assets attheir stations. The LPCAPprovides a small form factorpanel for locations with limitedspace availability.LPCAP – Mission CrewThe system can use anycombination of control panels, depending upon thecommunication requirementsof the operator. Inaddition to the EXCAP andLPCAP, Telephonics hasseveral other control panelsavailable with different typesof push buttons or toggleswitches, which may beused to create the mostideal user interface for theaircraft application.ExpandabilityThe SDI system can beexpanded to include:• Up to 32 operator controlpanels• Up to 88 radios oraudio assets• Customized panel humanmachine interface• Available maintenancepanels• MIL-STD-1553Interface• Ethernet Interface• Wireless IntercomExtensionSecuritySDI is qualified to U.S.Government and internationalrequirements for communicationsecurity providinga high level of isolationand control of compromisingemanatations.QualificationSDI is qualified to military(MIL-STD-810E, MIL-STD-461E) and commercial(DO-160) standards for environmentaland electromagneticinterference. In addition,SDI may be suppliedwith DO-178B software forFAA certification.CustomizationThe SDI system may be furthercustomized with uniquefeatures such as Spatial(3-D) Audio, Voice overInternet Protocol (VoIP)interfaces, crypto switchingand control, wideband audiocapability, custom operatorcontrol panels, and manyother options.Integrated Solutions andInstallation KitsTelephonics has preparedcomplete turnkey systemsolutions for its customers, including wiring and installation"A-Kits" which providethe installer with a completehardware package ready forinstallation, either in the fieldor in the depot. These totallyengineered kits may be customizedto the exact aircraftconfiguration or may be purchasedin an existing configuration, allowing the installerto customize the system onsite.>33,000>54,000>61,000
