REMUS 100Autonomous Underwater VehicleCompactReliableLightweightModular100 MeterDepth Rating
UTONOMYREMUS 100NavigationTranspondersFour small, lightweight transpondersare supplied as reference beaconsfor the vehicle during operation. The transponders are preset tolisten for a specific signal, whichis transmitted by the vehicle, andthen immediately reply. The vehiclemay then easily compute the slantrange to the transponder.Acoustic DopplerCurrent Profiler(ADCP)/DopplerVelocity Log (DVL)The specially designed Teledyne RDInstruments ADCP/DVL can beconfigured to include both downwardand upward looking transducers, allowing for bi-directional currentprofiling, 3-D bottom track, altitudemeasurement and highly accuratedead reckoning navigation input. Thealtitude measurement, when coupled withthe vehicle’s position and depth, alsoprovides seafloor bathymetry.Conductivity &TemperatureThe vehicle is equipped with amulti-parameter sensor sonde, which includes temperature andconductivity. Temperature informationis stored in the REMUS 100’s harddrive for plotting a profile of thewater temperature in the searcharea. Conductivity and temperatureinputs are used to accuratelydetermine the speed of sound inwater, which is used to increasenavigational accuracy.NavigationThe REMUS 100 navigates during amission using Long Baseline (LBL)and Dead Reckoning (DR). Theon-board computer automaticallydetermines the preferred method, and can vary it through the mission.REMUS RangerThe REMUS 100 vehicle carries an emergency transponder; completely independent ofthe vehicle’s other systems that may be interrogated at any time. The Ranger is a small, waterproof deck unit, designed to give the operator the ability to monitor the vehiclesprogress, via its transponder while the mission is underway. The Ranger consists of a highlyportable deck unit connected to a small, towed transducer. The front panel display indicatesthe real-time range to the vehicle in meters and/or is used to send selected commandssuch as “abort mission” or “come home” to the vehicle during operation.
