Adobe-Korea1-2Character Collectionfor CID-Keyed Fonts1 IntroductionThis document describes the Adobe-Korea1-2 character collection whichsupports the KS X 1001:1992 (formely KS C 5601-1992) character set standardand the Macintosh extensions. This document assumes that readers arefamiliar with the CID-keyed font format, which is described in the AdobeTechnical Specification #5014, “Adobe CMap and CIDFont Files Specification.”This document is useful for font developers wishing to develop Korean-languagefonts for use with PostScript ® products, and for software developersand end users wishing to access glyphs based on this character collection.A character collection contains all glyphs required to make fonts for a particularlanguage or market. Encodings are specified by CMap (Character Map)files, which generally reference a subset of the character collection. EachCID (Character ID) is associated with a class of glyph shapes. The specificshape of a glyph from a given class is dependent on the typeface style, thelanguage, orientation, and writing direction of the font, and possibly otherfactors.Character instances (glyphs) for all CIDs are shown in this document, givinga specific example of the correspondence between a CID number and itsglyph shape class. Font developers should design glyphs for each member ofthe encodings they wish to support. They may use this document as a referencewhen proofing CIDFont files.A further reference aid is the Adobe-Korea1-2 Character Code Table, whichshows the correspondence between CIDs and the various Unicode and KScharacter codes used to access the glyphs. The table itself contains informationin its header that describes its contents in greater detail. Adobe Systems also publishes a series of CMap files to support commonencodings based on the KS character set standards. These are described inAdobe Technical Note #5094, “Adobe CJKV Character Collections andCMap Files for CID-Keyed Fonts.” This document is available at the followingURL:http://partners.adobe.com/asn/tech/type/ftechnotes.jspNotePostScript printers with a PostScript language version prior to 2015 will notbe compatible with CID-keyed fonts without the prior installation of the CIDSupport Library (CSL). Font vendors who would like to license the PostScriptlanguage procedure in the CSL library for inclusion in font installers forCID-keyed fonts – may license it from the Adobe Developer Technologies(csldevsup@adobe.com).1.1 Adobe-Korea1-2 Hangul SubsetAdobe Systems has defined and sanctioned the use of an official subset forAdobe-Korea1-2 that includes hangul and symbols, but not the block of4,620 hanja (4,888 glyphs minus the 268 duplicate glyphs).The complete ranges of the CIDs that form the hangul subset of theAdobe-Korea1-2 character collection are 0–3435 and 8056–18351.NoteThe 268 duplicate hanja in KS C 5601-1992 that are not included in Adobe-Korea1-2 are available by character code through the CMap files. Detailedinformation on how these 268 character codes map to CIDs is provided in theheader of the cid2code.txt file.2 The Adobe-Korea1-2 Character CollectionThis section contains a catalog of all glyphs in the Adobe-Korea1-2 charactercollection. The name of this collection, Adobe-Korea1-2, originates from thefollowing three dictionary entries: /Registry (Adobe), /Ordering (Korea1), and/Supplement 2. These entries are defined in the CIDSystemInfo entry in theCIDFont resource dictionary of fonts that reference this character collection.The glyphs in the listing are organized by CID number. CID numbers 0through 18351 are listed along with an illustration of the glyph associatedwith each. 2.1 Adobe-Korea1 Supplement 0Supplement 0 (zero) contains the 9,333 glyphs (CIDs 0 through 9332) necessaryfor supporting the KS C 5601-1992 character set standard and theApple ® Macintosh ® version thereof. Supported encodings include 7-bit andEUC (Extended Unix Code).2.2 Adobe-Korea1 Supplement 1Supplement 1 of Adobe-Korea1 adds 8,822 glyphs (CIDs 9333 through18154) necessary to provide support for all 11,172 pre-combined hangul(aka, the Johab character set), as described in Annex 3 of KS X 1001:1992(pp 31–34). Support for the Johab and Unified Hangul Code encodings wasadded for this Supplement.2.3 Adobe-Korea Supplement 2Supplement 2 of Adobe-Korea1 adds 197 pre-rotated instances (CIDs 18155through 18351) of all proportional- and half-width glyphs found in earliersupplements. Their purpose is to significantly improve the vertical handlingof such glyphs in the context of OpenType.2 The Adobe-Korea1-2 Character Collection 3
