Michael BarnettThe EEO Trust’s high level networks with Government, employers,NGOs and academics in New Zealand and overseas have enabledthe Trust to build an influential position as a thought-leader onemployment issues. Its partnerships with employers ensure apragmatic focus which results in ideas and initiatives that make areal difference for employers and employees alike.The EEO Trust Board of Trustees includes representatives fromthe public and private sectors who bring a commitment to bestemployment practice which will result in increased productivityand creativity nationwide. While understanding the businessbenefits of effectively managing a diverse workforce, we are alsocommitted to creating a fairer society where people have theopportunity to reach their potential at work and maintain healthylives outside work.EEO Trust staff likewise are motivated by the difference theirwork can make to the lives of individuals as well as the positiveimpact of their professionalism and expertise on EEO EmployersGroup members and other employers.The EEO Trust Work & Life Awards have been influential inbuilding the current high level of awareness of work-life issues andthe implications for employers in the current skills-short labourmarket. As we planned for this year’s 10th anniversary of the EEOTrust Work & Life Awards, the EEO Trust team suggested holdinga diversity symposium in the second half of 2007. The Board ofTrustees’ confidence in the EEO Trust team was reflected in itsdecision to support this ambitious project which would shine thenational spotlight on diversity and employment issuesI wish to commend Dr Philippa Reed and the EEO Trust team onthe creativity, enthusiasm and professionalism they bring to theirwork with New Zealand employers.
