He was also Boss Bull of the Year.At Gilliland Bros. <strong>Charolais</strong> we select our herdsires as everyone does. They have to be structurally<strong>co</strong>rrect, have a good hair <strong>co</strong>at, sound feet, good temperment, and top notch performance.We calve in January and February,, and wean the first week in September. If a <strong>co</strong>w can’twean a 700 lb. bull calf she has no place in our program. We have seen our herd culling lead tomore fertile and productive females, and finally darn good bulls.The last <strong>co</strong>uple of winters we have switched to grazing <strong>co</strong>rn right up until the <strong>co</strong>ws calve.It has been very <strong>co</strong>st effective, but has added 5-8 lbs. on average to our calves.
