<strong>ONTARIO</strong> <strong>CHAROLAIS</strong> <strong>BOARD</strong> <strong>MEETING</strong>The Ontario <strong>Charolais</strong> Board had a conference call onAugust 22, 2007. Directors on call were Barry Potter, KeithBlack, Kelly Langstaff, Pete Neal, Brian Couglin, Doris Aitken,Adam Winder, Brent Saunders, Chester Tupling, GordTomlinson, and Owen O’Neil.President Pete called the meeting to order at 9:05 p.m.He read over a brief agenda. Doris read the minutes of previoustable meeting. A motion by Owen to accept minutes as read,seconded by Keith. Carried. Barry to look into rest of Fed Northmonies that has not been received as of yet.Doris gave the financials. Motion by Owen andSeconded by Brian to accepted financial as read. Carried.Barry reported on Ad & Promo committee has advertised in theAtlantic Beef Magazine 3 times, in Ontario Beef 3 times and theCCYA calendar ad. Barry reported that the Ontario <strong>Charolais</strong>website is up and running for those of you with computers it iswww.ontariocharolais.com Barry was complimented for hiswork on getting the website completed working with Dalyse By@ the <strong>Charolais</strong> <strong>Banner</strong>. Barry also reported that the NABCcarcass competition has dropped from $1,000.00 to $250.00.A motion by Barry that the OCA offer links to the websitefor any <strong>Charolais</strong> Breeders to advertise for a fee, seconded byAdam. Carried. Anybody with questions or information to addto the website to contact Barry Potter. All sale and show datesare on the website.Chester reported on the NABC show that the exhibitors movein on Wednesday, October 24 and out Sunday night the 28 th .The <strong>Charolais</strong> Show is Friday. October 26, 2007 at 12:00 noon

Brent reported that the fallmeetings have been scheduled, the new committee has beenstructure, Brent new job is on the market developmentcommittee, he also mentioned the new computer system inCalgary is up and running and hopefully register your calveswill be quicker. They had 14 applicants for the feildmans job,but the board felt they needed to be the right man for the job. Atthe National Meeting the vote for herd enrollment move from$20.00 to $25.00 per head, and the single animal enrollment thatOntario put forth was defeated. The National Sale avg.$3,900.00.Pete had asked Brian and Keith if they know how the entrieswere for the Boss Show in Renfrew on September 9. Theyhadn’t heard but hope to be 35-40 head for show. The <strong>Charolais</strong>Youth had 25-30 head at Peterborough for the Eastern ChallengeCup.Pete next topic was fundraising, beer for year, week-endgetaway, or steak for a year, were the topics. The board felt thatwe should be promoting our own product. That steak for yearwould be an asset. Brian to talk to Jim Clark on corn fed beef


Steaks, and the way to get the steaks to the winner and how.Brian will report back to Pete ASAP.Doris had reported in her financials that maybe the boardshould invest in a GIC or two 1 lock in, and other flexible incase of need. A motion by Keith that Doris looks into investingopportunities, seconded by Gord. CarriedPete reported on National Sale at the Royal the selections havebeen made. The Sale is Friday evening and the show is Saturdayafternoon. Pete thought there is interest from the west for saleand show.Correspondence- Ontario Cattlemen’s Assoc. had sent letterrequesting someone to sit on a committee for Johnes Diseases,the name of Tyler O’Neil was put forth. Doris will pass thisinformation on to him. The IPM is being held in Eastern Ontariowith Keith and Brian to look into a booth or cattle display.Meeting adjourn by 10:15
