The <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> is for social<br />
responsibility by connecting with partners<br />
that <strong>of</strong>fer life impacting services that<br />
reflect our mission.<br />
PROjECT SANCTUARY<br />
Project Sanctuary was founded in 2007 to reduce military family divorces, abuse and suicides through intensive family<br />
<strong>the</strong>rapy, financial counseling and by providing time for families to reconnect. The mission <strong>of</strong> Project Sanctuary is to provide<br />
<strong>the</strong>rapeutic, curative, supportive and recreational activities to veterans, active military personnel, <strong>the</strong>ir spouses and<br />
children. Project Sanctuary has hosted 21 retreats and is caring for 152 families. The current waiting list for veterans is<br />
more than 800 families, with 50 families being served every year at Snow Mountain Ranch.<br />
Currently, Project Sanctuary hosts eleven week-long retreats a year at Snow Mountain Ranch, with <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> subsidizing both lodging and programming costs.<br />
On August 27, 2011, <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> signed an agreement with long-time partner, Project Sanctuary,<br />
to collaboratively raise money for a permanent Project Sanctuary facility at Snow Mountain Ranch. By<br />
combining efforts, we hope to increase <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> military families served by <strong>the</strong> program every year.<br />

Having <strong>the</strong> opportunity to bring military families to Snow Mountain Ranch has surpassed<br />
our original vision for Project Sanctuary. We feel like we have a step up on <strong>the</strong> healing<br />
process because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> beauty, serenity, and <strong>the</strong> support we receive from <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong><br />

ADAM’S CAMP<br />
The mission <strong>of</strong> Adam’s camp is to bring<br />
toge<strong>the</strong>r dedicated families with outstanding<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and volunteers to provide<br />
specialized <strong>the</strong>rapy programs, family support<br />
and recreational camps for children and<br />
young adults with special needs. Adam’s<br />
camp has been serving families since 1986.<br />
In 2011 alone, <strong>the</strong> camp served 853 clients<br />
through nine different programs. More than<br />
4,100 children and youth with disabilities<br />
have been helped since <strong>the</strong> program was<br />
founded. Adam’s Camp has<br />
built a permanent facility at<br />
Snow Mountain Ranch - <strong>YMCA</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> to support<br />
<strong>the</strong> campers and families.<br />
They currently host 5 weeklong<br />
sessions a year at Snow<br />
Mountain Ranch.<br />

HERITAgE CAMP<br />
In 2011, 738 adoptive families, which equated to 2,584 people,<br />
plus 438 cultural community volunteers and adoption pr<strong>of</strong>essionals,<br />
and 276 young adult counselors descended on <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Rockies</strong> Snow Mountain Ranch facility for <strong>the</strong> sharing <strong>of</strong> cultural<br />
pride and spending time with a group <strong>of</strong> people who have one<br />
important thing in common - adoption.<br />
Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families has been a partner <strong>of</strong> Snow<br />
Mountain Ranch for more than twenty years. Heritage Camps for<br />
Adoptive Families, Inc. serves as a post adoption resource and<br />
advocate for children and families with diverse heritages. Heritage<br />
Camp accomplishes this by facilitating annual heritage camps,<br />
which provide culturally relevant and family-centered experiences<br />
for every member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> family. Six <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 11 camps are held at<br />
Snow Mountain Ranch, with a 7th camp being held at <strong>the</strong> Estes<br />
Park Center this coming summer.<br />
These camps provide an opportunity to share in a common<br />
experience that fulfills a sense <strong>of</strong> community and individual identity.<br />
It is Heritage Camp’s hope that every adopted child will leave a<br />
heritage camp knowing more about who <strong>the</strong>y are and where <strong>the</strong>y<br />
came from, and that every member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> family will have a better<br />
awareness <strong>of</strong> and sense <strong>of</strong> pride in <strong>the</strong>ir adopted child’s birth<br />
heritage. The camps let children and families relish in being<br />
part <strong>of</strong> a larger group “just like <strong>the</strong>mselves.”<br />

Snow Mountain Ranch is ideal for our camps, because<br />
it is so family friendly. The memories formed through<br />
<strong>the</strong> years at our camps have made so many families<br />
stronger. For many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, our camp is <strong>the</strong>ir annual<br />
vacation, and part <strong>of</strong> that is <strong>the</strong> joy <strong>the</strong>y feel coming<br />
back to Snow Mountain Ranch each year. It truly feels<br />
like a ‘home away from home’ for so many families, including my<br />
own. For our adopted, ethnically diverse kids, Snow Mountain Ranch<br />
has always been a safe haven where <strong>the</strong>y can just be <strong>the</strong>mselves<br />
with <strong>the</strong>ir peers and <strong>the</strong>ir families – no questions asked. Our<br />
partnership with <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> has made all <strong>the</strong> difference<br />
for our organization, and for so many adoptive families. Thank you!<br />

The Military Getaway program at<br />

returned from active duty in <strong>the</strong><br />
Middle East. We cheered each o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
on at <strong>the</strong> zip line during <strong>the</strong> day<br />
and enjoyed quiet family time on<br />

here for two and a half days, but it<br />

all nationalities, cultures, and religions to our centers. Our international program allows us to be more<br />
inclusive and intentional about connecting with individuals from around <strong>the</strong> world. By doing this we are<br />
able to help our staff and guests develop a world perspective by breaking down barriers and promoting<br />
peace and mutual understanding. Participants in <strong>the</strong> international program also gain programmatic,<br />
administrative, and communication skills needed in many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir home communities and return home<br />

“ We spent years vacationing here and after retiring<br />
applied for hike master and concierge volunteer<br />
positions. We enjoy seeing people have a good<br />
experience on a hike and encourage people to get<br />
out and try something that <strong>the</strong>y never have done<br />
before. We have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to teach guests<br />
about nature and animals, which is something we<br />
like to do. It’s our home away from home. As a<br />
concierge we meet many people and assist <strong>the</strong>m,<br />
most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time we are problem solvers. We <strong>of</strong>ten<br />
joke saying that we feel like we are at adult camp.<br />

Dear Camp Chief Ouray,<br />
You gave me a full scholarship to session<br />
2 <strong>of</strong> camp this year. It will be my seventh<br />
year as a CCO camper. My dad and his<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>r went to Camp Chief Ouray when<br />
<strong>the</strong>y were kids, now I’m going and I<br />
can’t get enough <strong>of</strong> our all camp games<br />
and rockin’ a Nalgene! I can’t tell you<br />
how thankful I am! This year has been<br />
tough after moving with my dad and <strong>the</strong><br />
economy. Without this scholarship, <strong>the</strong>re<br />

<strong>the</strong> exhibits. After I returned home I found an old photo that was taken <strong>of</strong> me during<br />
<strong>the</strong> Y-Teen conference I attended at <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> when I was in high school.<br />

“We needed to get away from <strong>the</strong> stress, as well as find a place where we could reconnect as a<br />
family. We attended many activities and bonded as a family as well as with <strong>the</strong> kids individually.”<br />
Comments like <strong>the</strong>se, which we are blessed to hear on a regular basis, demonstrate <strong>the</strong> vital work<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong>.<br />
2011 was a year <strong>of</strong> unique experiences for us: we were awarded <strong>the</strong> honor <strong>of</strong> hosting <strong>the</strong> 2014<br />
meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> World Alliance, we joined our partners Adams Camp in celebrating 25 years<br />
and Korean Camp <strong>of</strong> Heritage Camps in celebrating 20 years toge<strong>the</strong>r at Snow Mountain Ranch,<br />
we signed an agreement with Project Sanctuary which has begun raising funds for a new retreat<br />
cabin at Snow Mountain Ranch, we made significant progress in our long range planning for Snow<br />
Mountain Ranch, and we received national attention from press such as Reader’s Digest, Frommer’s,<br />
USA Today and Sunset Magazine for <strong>the</strong> great work we do.<br />
While we are very proud <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se accomplishments, we’re even more excited about <strong>the</strong> impact we<br />
had. Our focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility remained evident<br />
throughout <strong>the</strong> year. We provided outdoor education to 6,000 grade school students, provided<br />
scholarships to more than 250 campers, and supported <strong>the</strong> stays <strong>of</strong> over 700 military, foster and<br />
pastor families. More than 225,000 people from around <strong>the</strong> country, and <strong>the</strong> world, experienced<br />
our commitment to changing lives by building and streng<strong>the</strong>ning relationships. With your support,<br />
we continue to support youth, unify families and streng<strong>the</strong>n groups.<br />
We are honored to witness <strong>the</strong> life-changing experiences that happen at <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong><br />
and we know we can’t do it alone. Your support creates long-term impact well beyond our properties<br />
