(10) Identify conditions that need referral and refer appropriately to<br />
coordinate the patient’s health care;<br />
(11) Provide care and counselling for the elderly, terminally ill and<br />
bereaved;<br />
(12) Carry out home visits and home-based care;<br />
(13) Recognize problems affecting people at different stages of the life<br />
cycle;<br />
(14) Recognize normal and abnormal relationships within the family,<br />
and how they affect a family in health and illness;<br />
(15) Recognize and manage occupational and environmental health<br />
problems;<br />
(16) Practise within the ethical norms required of a medical practitioner<br />
with due respect to the autonomy of the individual and family and<br />
attention to confidentiality, informed consent etc;<br />
(17) Write complete, accurate, organized and focussed medical<br />
records;<br />
(18) Issue medical certificates and manage medico-legal problems;<br />
(19) Practise management and leadership skills;<br />
(20) Engage in life-long learning and continuing professional<br />
development;<br />
(21) Recognize the importance of quality assurance and practise<br />
guidelines;<br />
(22) Inculcate a scientific inquiring mind and investigate to solve<br />
problems; carry out research in primary medical care.;<br />
(23) Share knowledge with colleagues, students and other health<br />
workers, and<br />
(24) Act as a friend, philosopher and advisor to the family of the<br />
patient.
