Commercial <strong>Waste</strong> CollectionTop Ten <strong>Waste</strong> Reduction TipsThe Government is currently increasing l<strong>and</strong>fill tax by £8per tonne each year to help reduce the amount of wastegoing to l<strong>and</strong>fill <strong>and</strong> as a direct result, waste disposalcharges are expected to increase significantly in comingyears. The more you recycle, the less you send tol<strong>and</strong>fill, which helps the environment <strong>and</strong> also yourbusiness’s waste disposal budget.<strong>Newry</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mourne</strong> <strong>District</strong> Council can provide you witha cost effective collection service for recyclablematerials <strong>and</strong> other waste generated by your business.The Council can collect the following materials forrecycling:-• Newspapers <strong>and</strong> cardboard• Plastic bottles• Can <strong>and</strong> aerosols.Recycling PassCouncil commercial waste collection customers are alsoprovided with Recycling Passes which enablescustomers to recycle at Camlough, Kilkeel <strong>and</strong>Aughnagun Household Recycling Centres for free.We offer a range of st<strong>and</strong>ard recycling options. This is your ‘Duty of Care’.What do you have to do?You must ensure that:• You store <strong>and</strong> dispose of all your wasteresponsibly• Your waste is only h<strong>and</strong>led or dealt with bypeople or businesses that are authorised to doso.What is a controlled waste transfer note?A controlled waste transfer note (CWTN) is adocument which must accompany any transfer ofwaste between different holders. The CWTN must bekept by the transferor <strong>and</strong> transferee for a minimum oftwo years. The Council provides customers with aCWTN which covers customers for multiplecollections over a period of time.Remember a breach of Duty of Care Regulationsis a criminal offence.• Keep all your rubbish <strong>and</strong> bins on your ownproperty when waiting for collection• Do not put rubbish in or beside public litter bins,this could be seen as fly-tipping.• Do not put rubbish by trees, lamp posts orstreet-corners.Contaminated <strong>Bin</strong>sIt is important that only the correct materials forrecycling go into your blue bin.If your blue bin contains items such as glass, textiles,plastic bags they WILL NOT be collected <strong>and</strong>emptied.If in doubt, leave it out!For more information call 028 30313233 or visit www.newry<strong>and</strong>mourne.gov.uk/environment/services
