The Analyst assists in the expansion of the signalizationnetwork, the programming of all traffic signal controllers, and assists the supervisor with the dayto day correspondence with the <strong>Public</strong>. Location: 21 Mount Hope Avenue, Dartmouth, NS.and/or 3825 MacKintosh Street, Halifax, NS.SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Assists the supervisor in assessing requests for changes to traffic signal configurations.• Operates and observes the centralized traffic signal control system and assists in itsdesign and support.• Ensures the safety and operation of signalized intersections, signal corridors, and vehicledetection systems and initiates corrective action when required.• Answers public inquiries concerning traffic matters, investigates complaints/suggestionsand recommends action to be taken.• Reviews plans for new signal installation projects.• Arranges and leads traffic engineering surveys and analysis.• Assists in the preparation of reports and presentations for Council and others.• Confers with other departments, other levels of government, consultants, and privateindustry on signalization matters.• Maintains care of traffic signal program operational records.• Makes many routine decisions on traffic signal control and layout without assistancefrom a supervisor. Decisions resulting in traffic control changes are reviewed and signedoff by the Traffic Authority. Important design recommendations are discussed with andreviewed by the supervisor.• Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:• Diploma in Engineering Technology, with emphasis on traffic analysis, or equivalenttraining.• Two years experience in the field of traffic engineering, traffic signalization, computerprogramming, or in the design and/or operation of an electronic system.Experience & Technical Knowledge:


• Able to work with initiative and with limited supervision.• Good oral and written communications skills.• A valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and be prepared to use personal vehicle inaccordance with the local travel allowance policy.• Certification in Workplace Signage and First Aid an asset. Basic level of knowledge inExcel, GroupWise, MS Word.• Moderate level of knowledge in traffic engineering fundamentals and datacommunication systems.• Proficiency in NEMA traffic signal controllers and timers.Computer systems/softwarerelated to traffic engineering, in particular Synchro, HCS, SCOOT, and MarcNX andTraconet.COMPETENCIES:Teamwork and Cooperation, Analytical Thinking, Customer Service, Communication, Initiativeand Valuing DiversityJob DescriptionHOURS OF WORK: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.
